Achtung Spitfire?
Is this a much more modern version of Achtung Spitfire?

I was excited to see this but at least on first demo try, I felt utterly lost as to how to do, well anything. Maybe I need to wait for a post-release Steam game guide tutorial for dopes like me.

So no, I don't think it's a modern take on those games, it's a different animal. :steamsalty:

Achtung Spitfire was a beautifully designed turn based game. This game has timers on movement..a horrible, horrible design decision.

A discontinued Slitherine game <Check your 6> would do. it stopped sale but i believe any pirated version you can download from internet still works and should be able to use matrix's pbem++ server to play multiplayer gamer normally.

Also if you are a boardgame/wargame/board wargame lover, check <Fighting Wings> series. It's a brilliant game, having much better simulation than Achtung Spitfire.

A easier dogfight pc game is <Sid Meier's Ace Patrol>, got WWI and WW2 edition (sadly WW2 only in pacific theatre)

Ace Patrol is a pretty good game, for what it does. Scripted missions, but with quite a lot of variety. There are also three elevations for the planes, not just a 2D fight.

check your 6 has no depth and to call its premade missions a campaign, its a joke. Think what the OP was asking for is this game like the amazingly good games like the two turned based ones made back in the 90s or 80s. my answer would be probably not game designers dont bother to make games that long term engaging anymore. This game will probly have a really good fighter simulater, well like check your 6 did , but fall short on anything more than that. If i was managing an ROF Squadron, setting up flight rosters, rotating/promoting pilots, distributing hurricans and spitfires from 40-41 I would be juiced! but likely this game is going to be a better graphics version of check your 6. fun for a quick dogfight but no depth, progression or plane variation.

sadly the cartoonish and 4 plane limiting nobody ever dies dawn patrol is probably the best of this game type out their.

I really liked Down in Flames but seems like almost no one ever played that.

I believe that the timer will be optional.

Show me ANY post that says the timer is optional.

Correction, I think it will be optional, not 100 sure. But we will see. I don't like it with time either.

Sorry for the aggressive post. I have done a fair amount of reading, and the developers even closed one of the threads. Pretty comfortable stating that they WANT timers, to force players to push push push. Timers cover up poor AI.

Pretty much what I hope for, I was even thinking about attempting to do 3D Achtung Spitfire myself looking for parameters to simulate WW2 fighter failthfully.
It is such an opportunity.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
