Different types of food could be used early on to manipulate weight and discipline to get certain digivolutions you want, but for a new player that's not interesting yet.
Some Digimon you meet throughout your journey will ask for certain things, but most of them will not join the city, so it's just a little side thing you can do.
My suggestion to new people, as long as you don't need/want to feed it to your partners, sell it for extra cash. You'll need it in the early game. But, of course, try to feed them things and see what these items do, that knowledge might come in handy later on.
Last: Don't let the aging mechanic ruin your fun. I feel that it's the main point of Digimon World to raise your partners growing stronger with each new generation and just be surprised by what you can evolve into.
And I'm not worried about the aging mechanic, my Digimon will have to die for me to unlock new evolutions anyways so I'm very chill about it, our trainer perks and town upgrades will make the next generation to be better.
And weirdly I'm not out of cash, the battles pay for themselves, this game is way more generous than World 1, but so far I'm storing everything less mushrooms and meats, it seems that I will need some items for cooking later on.
Thanks Neptune, I'm waiting for Game Maker be announced for PC.
