Proceed to chapter 2, to recruit somebody to help with removing that rng aspect
My stingmon fulffill the req for both megakabuterimon and megakabuterimon(blue) and it digivolve to megakabuterimon.
Also my okuwamon fulfll the req for both grankuwagamon and examon and it digivolve to examon.
Alternatively you can recruit grapleomon later and upgrade the dojo to lv.2 to make your digimon digivolve to specific digimon that you want.
(I actually do understand it, it appears random if you don't know the mechanics.)
In this game evolution priority mechanic works as following:
A Digimon is only eligble when you fulfill enough requirements.
Baby II -> Rookie
The game will pick a eligble Digimon with the highest required stats sum. If there are two Digimon with the same sum it will actually randomly decide.
If you don't fulfill any Rookie's requirements it will pick the Digimon with the lowest required stats sum.
Rookie and above
The game will pick the eligble Digimon you never has before with the highest required stats sum. If there is no eligable Digimon you never had before it will pick among the eligble Digimon you did have before.
Additionally, when a Rookie Digimon reaches 0 lifetime without evolving to Champion it will evolve to Numemon or Geremon, depending on whether Offense is higher than Brains.
