It's basically a tamagotchi game with real time battles that you can control from the sidelines, issuing commands to your Mon. You have to make sure your two Digimon are constantly fed and happy. Building their stats so they evolve. It's a very grindy game but I actually enjoy that as the game is weirdly addicting.
But it's a satisfying amount of Digimon. The primary difference is that this is a light sequel to Digimon World 1 so it's a completely different gameplay system and loop. There's basically no similarities to compare besides Digimon. I'd recommend watching a few videos to see if you're interested.
Cyber Sleuth:
- easy for newcomers
- much better story
- turn-based battle system
- more customizations (equipment, multiple in-battle skills to learn)
- freedom with evolutions (you can easily get mons you want)
- more complex dungeons
- new game+
Next Order:
- battles are mostly automatic, but you can give commands every few seconds
- semi-open world that gives a feeling of a real adventure
- complex gameplay loop that features time management mechanics, taking care and training your mons, rebirth and town building
- steep learning curve
- digivolution system is *really* weird and unnecessary complex to the point that even while following an online guide, you might end up with mons you didn't want
- difficulty spikes with boss battles and sometimes even normal enemies
- constant backtracking, even worse then in CS
For me, Next Order was very different, not only from CS, but from pretty much every other game I've played, and despite how janky it can be at times, I liked it a lot.
Again, do yourself a favor and just watch the gameplay loop on YT, as it's hard to really properly describe the game mechanics in one post.
next order is a highly interactive tamagotchi. its a digimon raising simulator with a game built on top.
That's pretty much survive.
