Want to find resources easily but have tough fights? easy survival with extreme combat. Want to walk over most enemies but have to scrounge all over the map for one lousy comfrey to make medicine? go the other way.
Some like extreme/extreme ironman, others would rather go easy/easy infinite saves.
Easy/easy or normal/normal may be the best way to learn, and if you get bored, you can always up the difficulty.
Unlike Mrak, I enjoy region-locked- I like the progression of a new zone being a little too tough when I first get there, and being able to dance through after I've leveled out. Never had a bear on any team.
But I have played adaptive as well- both modes have their advantages. However, once you have picked one exploration mode, that's it for that team. If you don't like it, you can always start a new team.
Bottom line: it's your game. Try everything and then play the way YOU enjoy, not how someone else says you should. No one's watching and no one's judging.
