Maybe it would also be possible to do smt like in dark souls 2 or even borderlands, when you cleared an area you are able to increase the level of all encounters in this area by a set amount, also changing the loot. With no going back to the old low level of the area for at least a specific set of encounters or permanent, so you can not swap around as you like but you have do decide if you really want it. But when you choose to do you can fight for honor and glory (and better loot) :)
Way weaker enemies that run away is a good idea too! Maybe it should only affect humanoid enemies though.
I fear changing old areas for better loot is too work-intensive for the devs, but I like this idea as well. =)
Theres just nothing else to do
Personally I turn my Master Miner or any merc who already master profession I want into Master Cook. I switched their profession while in Rest as Master Cook it pretty much reduce their individual food consumption into 2.
Lvling Master Cook in the game is easy with recipes and ingredients. Also w/ accessories like Headband that provides 10% profession exp boast.
High Food Recipes grants 40 food. Standard food recipe grants 14. Knowledge food aside from bread grants 6.
Don't forget Camp Gear like Higher tier cooking pot which reduce food consumption into 6.
2 fish which usually provide 8 food if put on drying rack it can produce 10 Dried fish which is 10 food.
Animals also produce food. Best animal food producer are the rats. I can get a ton of cheese using rats.
Don't get me wrong animal companion definitely need a overhaul.
Like able to store animal. Able to train animal to lvl them up. Animal breeding farm or camp gear. Collar to make them work animal. Ability to make them mounted units to make War Ponies viable.
Surprisingly rats breeding mechanic is decent in the game. Offspring rats can gain decent trait and terrible trait from their parent rats. Giving rats name their offspring will have RNG generated name for their parent rat. I am surprise the devs didn't add some breeding animal farm in the game like Pokemon.
but i don't find animals "useless" in fights
Boars are really weak, i can agree (no dmg and low hp comparatively) but bears are great tank, with powerful retaliation awhen engaged, and wolves packs are really powerful, even though they can die quick if not managed properly
3 wolves with the critical passive is really a killjoy for every ennemies, as long as the wolves aren't engaged
now imagine 6 wolves, each with this passive...i made a roleplay pack with 1 alpha and 5 wolves, with a beast tamer : when he shouts "attack" someone dies, simple
but i agree on one point : animals could have more depth in their gameplay, like some leather vests for wolves, leather armors for boars, plates for bears etc
and please, do somethings for the boars, they are USELESS, even as food producers
