Woodland Farm - Free Companion (Bleh)
So I went to the Woodland Farm later in the game. I accepted the guy, so I wouldn't have to kill him, and then I cured him. I don't want him in my party since his abilities suck.

Why is the wife's dialogue still talking about him like he's dead? The guy is cured of the plague, what gives?

Why is there no option to just cure him of the plague, the way you do in other quests?

Can't post this is feature requests, because "I'm not a member." Seems like a silly restriction if I bought the game.

The degree of branching in the dialog trees is extremely limited in Wartales. Stories are mostly bare bones, to just give the basics around the management & combat systems.

The Torus situation is one of the most elementary, and reads like the start of a programming effort that was never finished.

Most free companion recruit is no trait except free, i think only Hakert the thief ranger in the south of stormkeep the other basically not worthed, and Torus can be sold to Inquisitor party above the mountain not far from there for 1 willpower belt.

Or you could just kill em for their loots AND the Purifier Ring at the same time.

I kill him all the time. He doesn't come with any trait other than Carnivorous. That is just a straight negative. His stats are exactly the same as any other regular Warrior. The only benefit he has is he comes at your level, instead of your level -2. To me, that is rubbish because every merc is going to be at your level at some point...

It may sound inhumane of me to kill him just like that. But, in real life I wouldn't even recruit him. I'd cure him and send him back home to make love to his wife so she can stop talking to me like he's a goner.

Oh yeah, he can gimme that knowledge treatise he has stored up in his attic instead, as a reward for me saving his life. I always feel bad having to steal it.

I just fire him after healing and pretend he goes back to the farm. Its a shame the world reacts so little to things you do.

Tbh, if you start out at Tiltren, he's pretty valuable. Cos you never know when you'll get a Merc that is actually REALLY valuable. Like a merc who has every stat right on the average and/or slightly higher, as well as 15 Willpower AND 1-2 Valuable Traits with no negative ones is kinda hard to come by.

Most of the mercs you can hire usually have really low base stats, especially in the early stages of the game. So I'd say Torus is a welcome addition. Not to mention Carnivorous isn't exactly a hindrance since nearly every food we have our mercs munch on are Meaty in some way or some form.

Torus is a valuable part of my team. I picked him up at level 7, just before leaving Tiltren for Vertruse.

I turned him into an Executioner. Here he is at level 9, cleaving through enemies like butter:

Not being any worse than any other recruit and cheaper to boot is actually an advantage in his favor. You don't need to min-max in this game. Gear, buffs and tactics matter more, in the end, than base stats. So if he's affordable and his negative trait is virtually negligible, why not pick him up? He will serve.

Any warm body can be turned into a killing machine, with proper shepherding.
