How do I use recipes

This is kinda embarrassing, but I can't figure out how I use a recipe. I bought a bunch of them, have some for cooking, but I can't figure out how I make it into something I use.

Click them in the inventory to learn them or go into the compendium and hit learn there, then depending on what it was for, use the cooking pot, blacksmith anvil, crafting table or alchemy bench to make the item if you have the items needed.

I think I may have it figured out, I don't think my cooking skill is high enough to learn said recipes. Thank you for the response though.
