The most important things is the amount of willpower your units have as also how much "sound" they produce.
The lower the sound they produce the less fights will you have to fight since the soundmeter won't fill up as easily as it would when your units are producing a lot of it.
A good and helpful trick my friend and I used in our co op was, when we knew that the next action will fill the meter and we will end up in a battle, we backed out, saved, modified the group by taking more units with us despite the sound would be of the roof so we had a lot more units that could easily finish the battle without having to lose someone because we had enough units to catch up with the incomings. :)
After the battle, we went out again, saved, modified the group to the silent one and went in to do the rest.
The plague villages are a real downside to the game. I don't understand why you can't escape there when you can always escape otherwise. Plus, it's snowing in the house (LOL), and so many undead are coming that half of Harag is visiting. A really bad design decision in my opinion, even though I otherwise love the game.
Bug using isn't really my thing.
