BTW, in gosenberg you can find a prisoner that will always tell you that even if you recruit him, he won't tell you how the others escaped.
This is indeed a "special recruit" and it's always a archer.
However, I tested the recruitment twice in two different runs prior to the release and he always had bad traits so I reloaded and let him be.
This was prior to the release though so I will test it by the next possibility to see if it changed after the release.
They are recruits you will either get for a set amount of gold without the need of influence OR for free or for a small amount of influence without the need of gold or by healing them or saving them from death. In case of the Dark Steed by placing wheat in a certain place so it will appear to eat so you can recruit it and another horse by winning a mini game in gosenberg.
The normal recruits you always need a certain amount of gold and influence that increases the more recruits you have. This doesn't affect the special recruits though.
The normal recruits also always have set traits they are coming with while most of the special recruits either have none or only have positives (except of the archer in the prison in gosenberg that always had bad ones prior to release which I'm not sure if it changed).
Or the other way around...
Ahahahaha, funny.
For example Torus only had the carnivorous trait and Hakert had a trait that benefited from being close to animal companions which I never use.
There special is there never changing Name, never changing class, and the fact that you get them for doing quests/paying a kind of resource/item instead of tons of gold & influence.
Yes, a couple.
