"Unique" companions (spoilers inside)
So far I found 2: one snow wolf in jail(i believe in first zone) level and Inquisitor chick with interesting hammer way back in Plagued zone as level 7

Feel free to add yours. I know You can recruit Plagued guy in first zone in stables(?) or something, on level 4

edit 1: also, Pony, Black Steed, stables on 3rd zone, need to put some wheat and it will appear

don't heal his plague with a potion)

Arthes:
- Ranger *Loc: Improvised Burning Stake *Rec.Cost: Fight Inquisition to save her
from the stake
- Looting Outlaw > Brute *Loc: South of Cortia *Rec.Cost: 150(?) gold (Tip: Check
Cortia tavern for possible bounty asking for the removal of the looters to make a
profit off the recruitment)
- Black Steed > Pony *Loc: Estuary Fishery *Rec.Cost: 8(?) Wheat placed in trough

Ludern:
- Inquisitor > Brute *Loc: Ludern Jail *Rec.Cost: 150 Gold

Grinmeer:
- Lyderic Hoevendorp > Swordsman *Loc: Brothel *Rec.Cost: A LONG quest chain
followed with a gold cost of -I think- 300(?) gold all for an average Swordsman
- Ponied-up > Pony *Loc: Rouste Field *Rec.Cost: Win the Rouste Tournament

Drombach (The newly added Alazar Territory):
- Gunbald > Ranger *Loc: Drombach Jail *Rec.Cost: 150 Gold (Unique trait: Hates
Heleth)
- Heleth > Warrior *Loc: Drombach Jail *Rec.Cost: 150 Gold (Unique trait: Hates
Gunbald)
*** Recruiting both will give you the Hate/Hate Relationship achievement
****** Tip: Despite hating each other, it is possible that recruiting one and
immediately recruiting the other can result in the first recruited
companion telling you they are worried about the other's performance
which can result in them training/giving the other the Second-Line trait.
Ex: Rec. Heleth > Rec. Gunbald > Heleth gives Gunbald Second-Line Trait

I haven't fully explored Drombach yet so there may be more 'unique' companions I'm missing. Also possible I forgot other companions from the other regions.

Hmm, they must have changed that then because it was a neutral pony prior to the release.

BTW, in gosenberg you can find a prisoner that will always tell you that even if you recruit him, he won't tell you how the others escaped.
This is indeed a "special recruit" and it's always a archer.
However, I tested the recruitment twice in two different runs prior to the release and he always had bad traits so I reloaded and let him be.
This was prior to the release though so I will test it by the next possibility to see if it changed after the release.

They are recruits you will either get for a set amount of gold without the need of influence OR for free or for a small amount of influence without the need of gold or by healing them or saving them from death. In case of the Dark Steed by placing wheat in a certain place so it will appear to eat so you can recruit it and another horse by winning a mini game in gosenberg.

The normal recruits you always need a certain amount of gold and influence that increases the more recruits you have. This doesn't affect the special recruits though.

The normal recruits also always have set traits they are coming with while most of the special recruits either have none or only have positives (except of the archer in the prison in gosenberg that always had bad ones prior to release which I'm not sure if it changed).

You might be thinking of Ponied-up, the Grinmeer rouste reward pony mentioned earlier. The archer who won't tell you about the others is in the Vertruse jail. The name of that one changes and the traits are random like any other recruit (my recent one is a good ole club-foot). I was hoping his dialogue would change after you pay his friends a visit, but nope.

Aww man, now every time I see a white bear in jail I'm going to imagine my merc saying, "Oh cool, a polar bear!" followed by the guard, "Ahh, no. He's just covered in coke."

Are there anymore or is this the entire list?

Wish they would have balanced out the pregenerated ones instead of giving us 3 brutes, 3 rangers, 1 warrior and 1 swordman.
Aeternum Apr 23, 2023 @ 4:39pm
I started a new playthrough and noticed that both Hakert and Torus had bad traits. Didn't progress enough to check the others but these unique companions seem to have randomized traits so they may not be worth recruiting at all.

For example Torus only had the carnivorous trait and Hakert had a trait that benefited from being close to animal companions which I never use.
Brigand231 May 17, 2023 @ 10:20am
In all the games I've played Hakert has ALWAYS had the snorer trait.
Stardustfire May 17, 2023 @ 11:51am
the special recruits get mostly random traits, like normal ones. the only thing that is nailed is Torus Carnivore, because you cant heal that any longer since one of the last EA Patches. before that you prevented him getting carnivore by instant cure him after recruitment. but they changed the timing for pest cure, so now you ever need to have a cure ready at the result screen of the fight where you get plagued. what means Torus is stuck with carnivore.

There special is there never changing Name, never changing class, and the fact that you get them for doing quests/paying a kind of resource/item instead of tons of gold & influence.
