Rangers (rogue) only use daggers.
Go trough the Inn and Prison till you find a Archer.
In this case, a Ranger is not a literal D&D ranger. It's a mercenary that wields daggers and wears light armor.
Bows are only useable by archers and their subclasses.
Here's the breakdown of character archetypes and their weapons/armor:
Swordsmen- swords (as expected), both one-handed and two-handed. Heavy armor.
Brutes- one or two-handed maces and hammers; heavy armor or medium armor (Smashers are limited to medium).
Warriors- one or two-handed axes; medium armor
Rangers- daggers, light armor
Archers- bows, light armor
Spearmen- spears, medium armor
It's simple to figure out. If you see a recruit in the tavern wielding a certain weapon, that is the only type he/she will be able to equip.
A 'Ranger' is essentially a sort of class that does both melee, ranged, and possibly Rouge-like abilities.
Like a mix of Archer and Rogue/Thief.
