How to have fun in this game?
I played for 25 hours and i must say i am not feeling it. The tactical layer seems meh. I also think the other activities are just loosely strong together mini games. also not very excited about that. I am a huge battle brothers fan got well over 1000 hours there. is this game really that different or why am i not enjoying it. maybe i should give it another try havent played in a year, has something substantially changed about this game?

i have fun by the exploring and building unique chacters, only complaint i have is animals arent that useful other than ponies for hauling and bears for combat. the tomb rewards you dont get most until you dont them all and its not useful by then
Nothing has substantially changed, if you don't enjoy the turn based combat you won't enjoy Wartales.

The big difference between Wartales and Battle Brothers mostly breaks down to the removal of RNG from attacks, you can't just miss an attack at random in Wartales. It sounds small but it's a big change in the moment to moment play for the game. This does mean that just liking Battle Brothers does not guarantee you'll like Wartales.
This game might just not be for you, and that's okay.

25 hours is long, if you did not find the fun then there is maybe none for ya. Happens with all of us, everyone seem to love Dragons Dogma 1 for example i really tried to like it found it extremely boring. We are different with different taste
Wartales is an intentionally not challenging game. Instead, it allows you to be stylish and flavorful. Also it has coop and long/er scripted campaigns.

BB is a one of a kind game, at least until Overhype releases Menace into EA.
For me the 'mini-games' just killed the fun of this game. If I wanted to play reflex style games I'd buy them. I wish they had an option to turn them off and just have a simple pass/fail chance based on skill level or something. Other aspects of the game are great so I keep planning to give it another try, but like you I got to about 25 hours and bounced off it.

The minigames are pretty awful. I keep going because the rest of the game is great for my playstyle. The only minigame that i have real trouble with is Blacksmithing, and my need for perfect gear means I do a LOT of save-scumming. the rest of them are just tedious and it doesn't matter too much if i'm not perfect. I get a bit less ore/wood, or I break a lot of lockpicks/fishhooks. But with smithing, if you want a three-star item you have to do it nearly perfect, or you have to use the improvement option (where you have to do the minigame AGAIN!).

Blacksmithing should give you the option to just pay more materials to the top quality gear. Some might say it's cheating, but they added in the Solverizer for people who are bad at slider puzzles. Why not let people pay materials for better gear instead of having to redo the minigame?
