Why low fantasy?
I really enjoyed this game, I believe I have almost 200 hours in it. My question is why did they decide to make this game low Fantasy? Great game but it does get old fighting the same thing over and over. High fantasy just makes the game more interesting. I get the argument for more realism but this game would have been so much more enjoyable with fantasy creatures. Anyways still really enjoyed the game, I was just wondering that is all.

Yeah, it seems to me that the mechanics are great and the genre is fun and intriguing, the power scaling is a missing factor. A low fantasy game needs strong story and character development features to keep it interesting, and the mercenary concept detracts a bit from the character development, though I do like how the chance of losing a character (or a horse :( ) in combat makes them more fragile therefore a bit more precious. I am not looking forward to the combat becoming boring, and I can see that on the horizon.

I'm hoping some future expansion allows us to sail through a whirlpool or open a tomb portal to a higher fantasy region and map. Something akin to Wheel of Time lore, which has monsters and magic but they're so rarely seen by the common folk they're more fairy-tales for most people. I think that would bridge the gap nicely and allow both to exist in the one game. The Tules could be real after all.

There are already quite a few "out of the ordinary creatures" in the game :
The crawlers, the giant rats, the Luderne monster, the giant mosquitoes, the ghost pack, the mermaid skeleton, the infected zombies, the flying "mystery" and its lightning, ...

I am grateful they decided for this setting. I am sick and tired of high fantasy games. They are everywhere.
some people enjoy low fantasy
that's all
This might come as complete news to you, OP, but not every single person who enjoys fantasy needs it to include magic, elves, dragons and beholders. A lot of people prefer low fantasy. Simple as that. If you're looking for high fantasy... just browse the RPG-section on Steam for about 0.5 seconds and you'll find at least 10 titles. Low fantasy settings doesen't really have the luxury of being over-represented in gaming, so we enjoy it when the odd title drop. And this is a damn good one. Please don't ruin it for us. You have about 15.000.000 other titles to mow through.

Your question is akin to asking why 50 shades of grey isn't high fantasy, because so many people enjoy harry potter.
I mean more fantasy creatures and some spellcasting would make the book even more enjoyable for people. :steammocking:

Because if i wanted high fantasy, I'd play Guild Wars. or Diablo. or Path of Exile. or Grim Dawn. or LOTR online. or WoWC. or Vindictus. or FFIX. or Baldurs Gate. or Divinity's Sin. or Elden Ring. or Dark Souls. or The Witcher. or DND.
