You can also explore the village with your quiet units, then once you get close to 100 noise exit and enter the village with another party composition.
I bring 8 and just group six in the middle around an archer (who can shoot over them) and put two fighters on either side as bait since they're immune to poison (skill). Just search each turn, kill with a non-primary skill if you get the chance, but focus on searching.
Do not, under any circumstances, try to block the openings, that hint is a lie.
For rangers, it's best if you have the assassin class, as the ranged throw does a lot of damage and will not spark their poison clouds. Torches and throwing knives are also great because you can hit a zombie without being adjacent to them. As long as you're not adjacent then the poison cloud won't spawn.
Gunner crossbows are basically easy mode for cursed villages. Not only can they kill 2~3 zombies per turn, they can still spend their turn searching.
Archers should just be using recoil shot to get 1 kill and then searching.
Axes, swords, maces, pugilists, and spears aren't worth bringing in my opinion. They're going to cause a lot of problems and if you're struggling to kill all of the plague ridden in rounds 1~3 you're not going to last much longer than that anyway.
Be sure to eat optimal foods before going in if you're close but not quite there. Eel soup is +15% dex, Stuffed Cabbage is +10% crit chance, Hill Delights is +20% dex. You can increase your damage by a lot with just food. A master chef can also produce 1-star food, which gives even larger buffs.
Edit: If you've found the Small Gauntlet belt accessory, give that to your crossbow. They get the +50% damage and can still fire their crossbow multiple times per turn. It only blocks actions like Wrath.
After two or three turns your ranger will start one shotting enemies with their passive throw skill.
The small gauntlet buff is good, but the warrior's shout with +40% for the whole team isn't? ^^
