Tavern and pit is not worth the money.
The tavern and the pits, we can do without them.
But everyone plays as they want.
I'm enjoying all the DLC's, tavern and pit included.
Best parts of Tavern aren't even the krowns:
#1. Magical teleporting tavern lets you stash and add companions whenever you want:
- Can put animals there (unlike travel posts which only hold companions)
- You can access it anywhere and almost freely add/remove companions and animals (unlike travel posts which are tied to specific locations)
- You can also stash prisoners there, so you don't have to worry about them escaping or eating food (though it does cost copper coins and can reduce tavern prestige if your profits plummet for too long).
#2. Easy XP
- Really accelerated professional XP for Brewer, Thief, Cook, and Bard. It matters less for the latter two but really helps for the first wto.
- Lots of combat XP earned by serving as a Bouncer.
Pit battles are interesting. Some of them are also challenging (especially on Brutal difficulty).
They feel like a more advanced/tougher version of the arena fights. I found most arena fights to be very easy, even on hard difficulty but Pit fights often required a more nuanced approach.
I guess everyone to their own.
In the "Pirate of Belerion" DLC, once the scenario is finished, you can still board ships.
In the "Skelmar Invasion DLC", once the scenario is finished, you can no longer do sieges or hostage releases ...
