UNstable Oil Best Oil
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAjnFZ2yGz0

60% to generate extra attack, and procs off cleave.

This was:

1 Cleave, hitting two targets generating two extra swings.
2 Double cleave, hitting two targets, killing one to proc galvanize, and generating one extra swing.
3. Followed by a fury finisher.

Total damage, including overkill: 775

yes, unstable oil is amazing.
Use it on a riposte sword and you have anywhere between 5 and 11 attacks per turn for that unit.
775 damage is awesome, multiple thousands is much better

I'm having trouble finding a good sword. All the 2H I see are very meh. White lvl 10 companion sword only gives 55 str.

And this 1H the Ulfram Eye that sets units on fire when you strike multiple targets is nice, but I think it's only a level 8 weapon.

WTB some legendary or high quality/high level 1h/2h cleaving swords.

if you take the opportunist strategy at the strategy table, you get 10% extra dmg from attacks of opportunity, plus the 5% for having dealt enough attacks of opportunity, that's already 15% extra dmg on aoo. A sword and shield unit just engages and disengages. By level 8 you can have hardcore training, upgraded and stack some rage.
The unit inspires itself (dbl mov) upon disengaging with an upgraded counter attack. Even at 55 str and the poor dmg of a companion sword (buffed from unit adjacency) the unit deals massive dmg from the simple fact of attacking so often. All skills that engage a unit (Destabilizing strike, taunt, basic attack and wrath) allow for an aoo from disengagement.
Which is 5 (basic, destab and taunt including each disengage riposte) attacks minimum per turn. Add the unstable oil and every time you engage, you have a 60% chance to aoo (buffed by 15%) and then can disengage for another aoo (as always buffed), for a possible total of 11 attacks per turn, although 11 would be very rare and you're more likely to hit 7-9 attacks per turn depending on how lucky you are on proccing unstable on basic, destab or wrath (proccing unstable on taunt is extremely unlikely, although not impossible)

The fire sword is not restricted to level, it is just a very rare drop and an even rarer sale from merchants, but it can make a team, since it can place areas of burning, which are the best stackers of rage from hardcore training upgraded, other than a poison cloud placed just on the edge of a burning area, such that you could move one half metre back and forth in and out of the poison cloud while remaining in the burning area, stacking 3 rage (or 15% extra dmg) for every point of mov the unit has

btw, since the sword can gain vp on engage, all of this is vp positive unless the unit kills an enemy outright with one of the engaging skills (you engage before the unstable oil aoo, so bonus)

This is even better. Some abilities proc after combat. For example valorous duel and inspiration move speed (upgraded counter attack).

For example if you swing a weapon with this oil and get in combat for the duel VP, and then if the proc kills the target, you will exit combat with both riposte active as well as inspiration move speed active immediately.

Yea unstable sounds good.

I’ve been having fun with misty oil on my 2h hammer guy with lucille (lvl 7 and waiting for 2h legion hammer to drop so im using lucille for the time being).

In phantom swarms, ruins or other high number battles I hit 3 enemies with smasher or revenge AoE and it spreads to 3-5 more enemies next to them killing all.

Got 8kill with one swing an hour ago lolz

Edit: forgot to mention that the animation of misty oil is awesome and feels so satisfying to watch

Apparently Attacks of Opportunity ignore Guard. This assassin with unstable oil just went straight through 50% defense 300 armor 300 HP like it was nothing.

It happens so fast I have to pause to make sense of exactly what it was.
It was an attack (crit), that gave an attack order to the bear(crit), that procced unstable oil for attack of opportunity (crit), followed by knife throw at melee range, which procced another unstable oil attack, ended with a fury finisher.
Try The Indomitable One Bow with range extenders and Misty Oil vs the Phantom Swarm. It will one-shot whole clumps of unarmoured animals. Unstable Oil is very good, but Misty Oil is situationally even better. Apply a Barrage and then use a Tactician's smokebomb to clump a few- every Barrage shot spreads into the crowd over and over, it can deal over 1000 points damage per target.

You were told, way back in early game, through a tutorial in game notification, that backstabbing an enemy ignores 50% of their guard.
Attacks of opportunity do not ignore guard as a given, your ranger was backstabbing the enemy however.

Oh yes, I use Misty Oil too. I'm not a huge fan of it like Unstable Oil, because large clusters of enemies are generally very rare.

For animal fights, yes they do cluster up pretty deliciously!

But as one of my mercs whined when I was killing too many beasts for food supplies... it is the human adversaries that carry the best loot.
