If you have a Boar long enough to get to that level they can get "Cart Boar" and that's impressive for carrying capacity. The attribute "cart Boar" is level 5 and adds 20 to the Boars carrying capacity. Add saddle bags at +10 and 3 cart Boars (as "livestock") can carry as much as a Pony and eat the same 6 units of food.
On food for weight issues the best value is dried meat & fish - only 1 but only 0.1 in weight and only 1 in cost.
Herbal Teas - food value 6 up from Milk 2 and another product sometimes (nil - Hemp) some times 2 (blue berries) but still only 0.5 weight. Happiness add as a bonus
Bread - 2 no value items equalling 4 food,
Next are single cooked meats going from 4 to 6
Then non-meats that are directly consumable - only 2 but also only half weight
Then meats uncooked generally 4 but weight 1 (worst is Bear 6 food but weight 1.5)
Then cooked meals The best is mutton stew) these are 14 but most (except Mutton Stew, inputs add to 10 raw) have inputs adding to 12. What makes these good is the Stat buffs generated.
Worst is Alcohol generally just 1 food (though 1 happiness to) for 0.5 weight and generally a high cost 5 to 8 for that 1 food vs 1 for dried Meat Fish, 3 for non -meats and 6 for most meats.. I don't buy alcohol (except as an alchemy input - e.g. Brandy) - steal it and collect in in combat drops etc.
Pigs are generally 2 (for livestock attribute) and once "Fat" and held a rest or so more you get 30+ Pork , 30+ grease and A carcass (weight 2) to be dried meat If you have the weight allowance OR consumed instantly (note ghost pack carcasses can be turned into dried meat but not eaten directly & weight 3). I generally slaughter at the rest break so have only the "left overs" in weight.
I just checked and my "livestock" Pigs are still only eating 2 apiece. The patch might have altered things I don't know. Started using "livestock" pigs about patch time though.
The up side is Livestock options give you greatly enhanced carrying capacity and they can have saddle bags.
Bad news is the guard strength calculation counts them as full companions but it also does that for chained prisoners to and your Ponies even the work ponies since the Update.
That way you get silly numbers in guard parties - me thinks someone stuffed that up big time.
Fights already take so long with like 12 people on each side, and adding more animals to the combat that just bumps up enemy numbers and do nothing besides giving food is kind of a bummer.
Yeah, you have to keep 'em alive, as said above. But sometimes it's fun. Once i had two armored enemies chased my two piggies while i dealt with others guys. Both were too slow (you can easily measure enemy's ability to move) to catch pigs and was unable to help their buddies.
