The base classes for mercs are: Brute, Warrior, Swordsman, Spearman, Archer and Ranger. Each class has 4 specs, 3 base and one unlockable. On top of that NPC factions have their own classes (you can take them prisoner) and animals do too.

Yes, the Marksman spec.
The unlockable specs are:
  • Archer->Marksman
  • Brute->Brawler
  • Ranger->Assassin
  • Spearman->Halberdier
  • Swordsman->Duelist
  • Warrior->Barbarian

Honestly, I find the base specs better than all of the unlockable specs (assassin and halberdier are okay, but Imo cutthroat and the spear wall spec are better), although they also unlock some other abilities that can be useful.
