i hope they change that because then that means that promotes having a single character or 2... there is no reason to pay alot of money to have a bigger army if the bad guys size depends on your size.

Certain encounters scale based on your troop size. Other encounters are always a set amount, so a larger troop size is beneficial.

yeah good point. personally, i don't like the big fights because it felt tedious to me in the long run. a few big fights every now and then is okay for me but fight after fight takes way too long.

4 - 8 on each side should be okay with me.

you're right. i remember the encounter where we had to attack the bandit base. we need to find the roaming ones first to lessen the number in the fight.

Professions exist and you would basically never level any of them beyond the beginning ranks if you only had 2 mercenaries.

But if you don't care about that, maybe? I haven't gotten all that far, but I can imagine some of the story content might be painful w/ 2 guys.

But sure, I don't see what's wrong w/ being able to have a small squad that you use or field a huge troop w/ 30 mercs. I'm not going to do the latter, but I appreciate that others can and enjoy it.

The current meta most definitely favours... a troop size of no more than a dozen, probably. With a 27 member company, I would say it is... not exactly a mistake, but definitely not something that has conferred any sort of benefits. In hindsight, I would not have gone above 12, but here we are. I hope that in future some gameplay incentive to run larger companies is added. Something to distinguish the "small party experience" from the "large party experience". But as of right now, all larger parties do is make battles last longer because of the many extra turns you have to play through.

Even a dozen is already a bit of a challenge. Food availability in the markets doesn't seem to scale at all. The more people you got, the more time you need to spend on fighting pretty boring animal fights. It isn't that it doesn't work, but it gets more grindy the more people you get. The only time a large party really feels like a benefit is in the hero fights.

Not always, it depends on where you are.
If you are further but go back to your starting area to do a few easy bounties for extra cash, the enemies are mostly lower on numbers then your party (depending on how many people you recruited).
I have a party of 16 in the meantime (including a alpha wolf and a strong boar) and when I take bounties in the starting area for easy cash and resources the enemies are only 4 to 6.

Even wolf or boar parties are lower then the amount of characters I have so it differs.
