Fast Way to Level Blacksmithing?
I get 8 or 16 XP per crafting.
Trying to get from "Experienced" to "Journeyman" costs over 1200 XP.

The materials and time required for that....yikes. There has to be a trick I am missing here

The targe shield and rags are the best your gonna get.

Targe shield and rags take up a lot of time to play the QTE mini-game.

Best thing to do is mine up all the iron you can get, buy up all the leather and cloth and wood you can get, chop all the wood, sell all the refugees you can capture (there are no limits to selling refugees unlike outlaws) etc... Then craft yourself a ton of offhand throwing weapons. And let your Rangers use them. Throw them every turn.

It is true you only get 8 XP or something per craft, but at least you don't get bored to death by the QTE. Only grind the weapons/armor crafting for the 50 items crafted achievements. I've gotten the weapons achievement, it is +10% stats. Pretty good, although it was bugged until recently i.e. didn't work until recently.

Not to mention, you can craft them in batches. A few clicks, and you can move on with the more fun parts of the game.

I think the devs are planning to address this profession XP issue next patch... Because a ton of people complained about it, I think.

The trick with some materials is you buy all but 1 of the resource being sold at the marketplace. That way, the resource won't get refreshed with something else. Although some items are always going to be there, but I wouldn't risk it.

For example, cloth and grease are found in Marheim. I don't know if they refresh if you buy them out but I think cloth doesn't. So I buy all but 1 cloth, same with grease. Grease is easier to get from animals but cloth is really hard to source... So while I'm trading, I buy all but 1 cloth, and stash it. Same with iron ore. The only time I buy up everything is when I see merchants on the road selling those stuff.

Also, every time you see a merchant with a shiny wagon, click on them and no matter what, buy up all the Grey Clusters you can get. 1 Grey Cluster + 1 Alaza-something Powder = 1 Rimesteel, you'll need a ton of these for crafting when you get to level 8. You start using them at level 5, but in small amounts. Level 8 is when you need about 80-100 of them, and if you don't start stashing them from early on (level 3 or so, depends on how fast you level up), you will run out.

Visit all the mines in every region and mine everything, sell the gems (luxury items). Store the iron ore, wood, rimesteel and anything else that weighs you down in the barrel near the Tiltren Stables, and when it is time to craft, take them out and use them freely.

Another trick to make money (so you can buy all the crafting mats) is when you trade from Stromkapp to Cortia, sell everything from Stromkapp at Cortia, but when you come back from Cortia, stash the Gems (trade goods) in the barrel, sell everything else. It should help you break even at least. Do some contracts, and return to trading from Stromkapp to Cortia, stash more Gems in the barrel... When you have 20-25 Gems and have unlocked the Gatehouse to Marheim, take all the Gems and sell them at Marheim. It will fetch you tons of krowns. I went from 1k to 4k with that trick, and from then on I bought every crafting mat I needed, plus mining and wood chopping. (I did some refugee selling when I was low on wood and influence at one point.)

This was a good find.. I think what would be nice is if they gave us a place in each town we could possibly buy/get once we free the zone and then have some storage and a place to rest and maybe get a bonus from.
Grease:
Catch a couple boars. Set them to Livestock animals. Camp around 3-5 times, and they get fat. Then execute. You'll be swimming in hundreds of Grease. Also tons of pork.

Cloth:
Sold by a merchant in Vertruse near the jail. The Drapery.

Wood:
Tracker Camp, Bandit lair, Sinister Cave Camp, and Sawmill all have choppable wood in Tildren. Bring a Warrior, or recruit Torus. Wood is SO plentiful that IDK why people opt to do Refugee trade.
Consider wiping out the slavers instead, and using that sawmill as a base. It has FIVE containers, and is near the town.

Iron:
Nothing for it but hitting every mine in every province.

I made throwable knives in batches too to level up the Smith. It's ridiculously hard to get the raw materials now.

Are you able to use the containers? God I wish I'd had know dthis sooner.

How does the live stock work? Do you have numbers?

I have listened to a load of guides on this game and in one post you have told me more.

So can you use containers?? I went back to the locations that used to have them and if they have stuff in them I can "steal" but not put anything in them.. I assume this is only viable if the container had stuff in it that wasn't going to be "stolen" and then you could put things in them. Honestly being able buy/have storage in towns would be nice..

Everytime i find a container that says " inspect ", i take out everything and put 1 flower or other worthless item in it.

Then after a rest the next time i go by it and it still has the item i know i can use it to store my extra stuff.
all the stuff thats not worth dragging around but I'll need it later like extras woor, ore, leather weapons/armor i cant use yet ect ect

Make the low tier gears you need with a character, but keep the first crafting bonus from either throwing knife/axe/sickle.

-Stock up enough ressources to make 75 time the craft in one go. (to stock up use any "map inventory" near a town like the barrel south of Stromkapp)
-Unlock the bonus to job xp from Mysteries and Wisdom path. (by unlocking 8 jobs)
-Find the backpack item Labourer's headband. Yeble clan Comunal house in Ludern

Change your first blacksmith job ( otherwise the game will default the craft to him), make a novice blacksmith equip the headband and mass craft the item in one go.

Exploit ? Yes, the experience a blacksmith gain after become an apprentice drop horrendously whatever the tier of the item you may craft, in this way you trick the game to give you the generous xp from a novice multiplied by the first craft bonus factor in bulk.

Hey i'm sure it will get fixed, but please do also give a proper experience gain tied to the tier of the item crafted when you do.

OK so I messed up.. or just didn't know.. I'll have to find one that I haven't emptied yet.. pretty sure I looted everything I could in Tiltren maybe in the next zone I'll find a place.

Aha, yes. The Boars at level three and up get a skill tree. The first choice on that tree is between a 30% Guard or a Livestock Animal. Livestock boars only eat 2 food/rest.

The boars are pretty bad at combat, so I pick livestock option mostly, and then do trading for the next few days, to allow them to get the Fat trait. Fighting with them often winds up with them dead.

Once that happens, camp, and use the cogwheel icon to get the "Execute" option- they yield large amounts of pork and grease, and can be used as an exclusive FREE food source for a small party.

Boars also get the Cart Boar option, which lets you use them as a low level Pony to haul more. They are NOT as good as Ponies though, but they are free.

Drombach county, fish village, free slaves

As others have mentioned, crafting offhand weapons ad nauseum- throwing knives, throwing axes, and throwing sickles is the most effective way to level Blacksmithing, as you don't need to play the forging minigame each and every time.

Also, the XP you get per batch of 4 goes up, with each tier of weapon you craft- so Ghost knives/axes provide more XP than their iron counterparts and Rimesteel versions provide more than the Ghost versions.

There comes a time when Rimesteel isn't too difficult to mine and process from Gray Clusters. Some merchants also sell the Clusters. I found them to relatively efficient in providing the needed XP.

Be prepared to craft 200+ Ghost knives and 150+ Rimesteel knives, in the course of the game, to get a good chunk of the required XP to reach Master Blacksmith.

Akhedian steel remains quite rare up to Gosenburg. I hear that it's easier to come by in Drombach, so you could theoretically level up with offhand weapons using this material but Rimesteel seems to offer the best compromise with respect to availability and XP reward.

But cloth and grease are some of the most abundant resources in the game. You don't have to actually buy them. Cloth, in particular, is found after every battle, Just by completing contracts, I amass 200 units of cloth in excess of what I require. Pretty much every human enemy drops it.

And grease can be easily found in any battles with animals, including Ghost Packs. And when you have the fully upgraded tanning rack, animal corpses and rats- neither difficult to come by- yield both leather and grease.
