I think customization of starting characters is ok, because you build your starting group of warriors. But then you find anothers already existing in game world, you can hire them or not, so in my opinion they should stay as they are (only a change of appearance may be allowed).
I agree with the above
There's no need to be customise every aspect of each character you later recruit.
