What is your squad size and why?
I currently have 10 mercenaries and two ponies. Thinking about doing a band of twenty mercs, but I am afraid I won't be able to keep up with the cost.

I also heard there was scaling in the game, how does that work? The more people you have, the more people you face?

What about you?

First question -> I usually play with 8-10 , more than that feels so weird. But when i feel necessary, i play with more. (Since i play region-locked, and here comes about the second question).

Second Question -> There are currently two modes in this game. Free and Region Locked.
Free, the world scales with you. Romain told me about how that scaling usually work, check this link ->

Region-Locked is more about -> The further you progress, stronger the enemies. So in a way, you have more control how fast you want to progress and how much you want to grind weaker enemies. Yes, you can safely GRIND in this mode if you want to. While in Free Mode, you dont actually have that much freedom (weird, right? Since its called Free, hehe).

Usually in Free Mode more companions or even animals you have, stronger the enemies will be.
While Region is as i said, determined by where they spawn and how far thery are considering your beginning.

Many people enjoy free mode more, many enjoy region locked more, its really a personal preference, both are fun in their own way :)

If you are patient, free mode is working pretty good, I decided to go to Vertruse before hitting Arthes - that helped me out quite a bit believe it or not. I currently have 4 guys with heavy armor, 7 guys with medium armor, and 6 guys with light armor, pretty even mix to be honest. i have 6 ponies, 4 wolves and 1 boar - all my companions are lv5, some with as many as 7 skills. The only enemy I can't beat in one turn (tactical set up critical before hand) are the lv5 guards with force of 20 (7, 7, and 6) My bank is over 10K with plenty of food. You really just need to be patient and frugal when starting >>> build up slowly; I'm 5 months in game time wise.

This next week I'll be concentrating on building up to 20 so I can go on a huge crime spree; because, after all, I can always pay a fine to go back to being a 'good guy' :)

I'm at around the same month time wise. Just hired another swordsman. My layout is heavy infantry, basically a ton of shielded swordsmen, two shielded axemen, two shielded blunt, and finally two spearmen. Everyone who can has heavy armor and a shield.
I'm playing on the easiest difficulty though, I often just play for fun.

Thats the goal my friend. We only have problems with those people claiming they are a beast playing this game but in reality they are either saving scumming a lot or exploiting.
Since there are 8 professions, it's logical that an 8-member party is a common size.

On this playthrough, I have 2 Beastmasters, 6 Level 6 Wolves, 2 Rangers and a couple off-tanks. Testing a Harpooner with Sweet Spot. Concentrating on a Bleed Damage idea.

Nobody in anything heavier than medium armour. Only 2 ponies, but with saddlebags on Wolves we can carry close to 300 weight.

Trying Region Locked mode this time. Getting gear from merchants is harder, but combat intensity is more controllable. With a wolf heavy attack force, we can get more captures as they hit easier than humans.

I think a party of just Big Axe Warriors specced as Beserkers/Executioners could really dominate the enemy. The all heavy tank idea is cool too.

Really? Part of learning any game is learning it's limitations - unlike BB it appears you can build a pretty big squad here; a welcome change after watching my Cultists continue to sacrifice themselves on a weekly basis. I find it very engaging trying to wade through fighting 23 guards and not having one of my guys die. Perhaps you're more interested in making pancakes...

12 Mercs and 3 Donkeys, seems a good balance 3 of each specialty.

11 fighters (although I think 8 is the optimal size)
16 donkeys

Most part of the time 8 to 10, you allready cover the more usefull builds. In order to test some build i pushed to 12 guys.
And i will test 20 for sure and get the trophy.

I have a troop of 13 1 beast master you dont ever need more. 3 berserker's 2 archers infantry persons. 1 captain swordsman went for the destabilising strike and riposte counter. For brutes its always the weakening blow to reduce damage also wish that weakening stopped bleed effects since they are too weak to now apply them. 2 brutes. One with the level 5 360 spin bleed when it armoured targets 2 handed hammer and one with the 1 handed elite mace from ruins. 3 rouges 2 of them tacticians and 3rd assassin and the assassin build is lethal. Cant take the hits but can massively stack debuffs and weaken target down. One spearman with the throwing skill that causes bleeding and with a destabilisation spear. I like to apply bleeds lots since they do so much damage. Currently only recruiting beasts for the poacher title 5 down 10 to go.
