You don't have to let them get married, you have two options to not allow it, if you want the relationships to remain "changeable".
Letting them get married is a win for you, since you won't have to worry about their relationship anymore and could technically use that to get a title or a trait that requires hitting allies, or being hit by allies: such as eyes in the back of the head, or the title for an archer hitting an ally, for example.
It also allows you to concentrate on improving the relationships of the married couple with other members of the troupe, without worrying about their relationship anymore.
They have the same name, but are not the same thing.
It may no longer be possible to get the title without also proccing the trait, I haven't tested it, but the title itself gives you the title and an aptitude point, only the trait causes a 10% loss to precision, not that that matters anyway, since it's not a good idea to rely on precision for hits anyway, and precision is only a factor when multiple units are in the trajectory.
You can still hug an ally and have no precision problems.
But I think couples who fight together have combat bonuses.
Otherwise, I still think you're looking for a lot more behind that word than there is (the game doesn't really talk about any wedding when getting the title). I think it's not such a problem to meet people who for example like their dogs very much (and there's really no sex behind it).
I don't see anything sexual about the other ("soul mate" doesn't really mean anything like that to me).

Saying any of that when the other companion is an animal would be extremely weird.
I think the dialogues were created in a general way, and should be adapted for human/animal relationships.

Not the post I was thinking of but just to show that the texts are chosen randomly.
