I like them both for different reasons, but one (Pirates >>>>>> Tavern) is a much better DLC than the other... By a long shot.
The tavern one though, I'm going to need to see a reason for this one that I'm not at the moment as just running a tavern in the background isn't enough of a draw for me.
I don't really see what if anything concrete I'm missing out on by not having it.
The Tavern DLC is more utilitarian. There's an impossible-to-fail business management minigame that effectively boils down to rewarding you with some new cooking and brewing recipes, a place to passively increase profession experience for four of the eleven professions, a way to gain an incredible amount of passive income, and a really awful and non-upgradeable legendary light armor helmet.
My tavern was passively earning roughly 1,000 krowns (roughly 3,500 Copper Coins) per rest/shift once I maxed it out, with potential for spending 100 Influence for an additional shift to get another 1,000 every rest. I only got my Tavern after my run was about 2/3'rds completed, and I ended up earning about 170k krowns from it.
How could you possibly be getting roughly 7,500 Copper Coins per shift?
But, regardless, yeah. It practically breaks the krowns scarcity that the early and mid-game tend to suffer from. Granted, all that means is that you can afford to skip out on the bounty and/or trade route grinds if you so choose, and that's not really a bad option to have.
Also, I like it because it's fun. But that's just me I suppose.
It's worth noting that you used to be able to brew using the camp tool without the profession. The old option was removed to make room for brewer, and the old tool turned into brewer's tool. But in turn a whole bunch of new alcohols were added to fill out brewer's recipe list, and the ability to upgrade the alcohol is new.
I do find myself wishing the alcohols had more useful effects, though. Even the aged alcohol just have weaker versions of effects already available through meals, and they don't stack.
Yes. The Belerion dlc adds a sea on the south side of the map. You can move back and forth at will.
If you play adaptive mode you can go there almost right away, if you play Region-locked you'll want to wait until roughly level 11 or 12.
Also you can create characters "native" to the dlc region by cycling through the faces in character creation to access "Mediterranean" appearances.
