Information on situations where you can capture units with Leader's (X) Abilities
I think it's fairly widely known by people who have played this game for a bit that there are opportunities throughout the game to capture units from enemy factions which possess their faction's Leader's (Thing) bonus which impacts the entire group. Some of these opportunities are much easier to find than others, with the Bandits (Wrongdoer) being by far the easiest to find. I'd like to gather some information about this because I have found that this can behave quite inconsistently.

The target units of all vanquish and assassination missions are always Seasoned and cannot be captured. As these units tend to appear as Leaders only, they generally cannot be captured. Similarly, named units regardless of whether they are listed as the "face" of the encounter or have the Seasoned status can never be captured. But I have noticed an inconsistency in that some, but not all, of these "leader" units can be captured when they are demoted from the "face" role of a battle due to the presence of a 'nonstandard' leader for their type. Thusfar, my theory is that these units are not available for recruitment when the mission is a Provincial storyline mission (Fate of XXX), but can be so in side missions.

I would like to gather more information about situations where people have encountered and been able to recruit these faction leader units. Some of the bonuses are extraordinarily powerful, and the easiest ones to get are actually the two weakest ones (though they are still strong).

Recruitable Opportunities:

Wrongdoer - Bandits (+20% crit damage to all units): This unit can be encountered in multiples in many randomly generated large bandit encounters with at least 7-8 participants. Some will be Seasoned, many are not. This is by far the easiest of these units to acquire, and might be the only one that consistently respawns on the map.

Brigadier - Alazarian (All units use the guard of the highest ally within 4 meters of them instead of their own, if it is higher): This one is famously available in Tiltren if you bring a still-diseased Torus to the Alizarian disease inquisitors up on the hill near where you find the blacksmith's apprentice. This won't always work - sometimes this unit will still roll Seasoned randomly if you are high enough level for that to happen (or Tiltren isn't your starting area in Fixed mode).

Captain - The Guard (all units get +40% movement!): I would *really* like to find a recruitable instance of this unit.

Hired Goon - Brotherhood (All units get +20% damage!): I would also really like to find a recruitable instance of this unit.

The Legion - (All unit's attacks deal an additional 5% of the target's health as damage): I don't remember the name of this unit, and I don't think this bonus is very good, but I haven't found an obvious opportunity, either.

Trackers - I similarly haven't found a location for this unit because I am not very interested in the benefit.

Corporal - Deserters (All units take 15% less damage!): I'd like to find one of these. Theoretically, it seems like it should work on high-level random deserter parties, but these units are only common in Tiltren and Arthes and that may make them unavailable in fixed mode. Its possible that a deserter that spawns at elevation in these modes would still work.

The Inquisition: To be honest, I don't even know what this bonus IS.

Situations that definitely do not work:

Alizar: Vertruse storyline missions, regardless of whether the Alizarian faction is 'Identified'. I would like to test the various Grinmeer and Ludern story missions but I think all main story missions are not capturable - this may be deliberate as many of these missions feature a substitute 'storyline' leader unit that replaces the Brigadier.

The Guard: In Grinmeer, you have the opportunity to assist a mill owner who is being extorted by an Inquisition priestess. For whatever reason, should you fight her, the priestesses followers are Guardsmen. I managed to generate a Captain that did not have Seasoned in this battle but the Capture option was not available even when it was engaged in combat and at 4 health remaining.

My current theory is that there are a number of storyline missions where a single "Leader" unit is present, but it is 'demoted' because of a storyline-only "Face Enemy" for the force (Such as the priestess in the mill, or the various Alizarian scholars who are the faces of the Alizarian units in Ludern). I think that when these leadership units are "demoted" in this fashion, they retain their capture protection even if they do not have the red Seasoned star. I do not know why this doesn't seem to apply to the Brigadier in the Torus battle in Tiltren, though in my most recent game that Brigadier has generated Seasoned and can't be captured, I have recruited that unit before.

I'd really be interested in learning in what circumstances people have been able to recruit these units, besides the Wrongdoer who is frankly quite straightforward, easy and endlessly repeatable due to the constant respawns of Bandit faction units all around the game. In particular, if people have successfully recruited Corporals, Captains or Hired Goons I'd like to know where and how, because those units have very, very powerful leadership bonuses (much higher than the Alizarian or Bandit faction bonuses).
