Alterations of crafted Armour

I crafted a Rimesteel Gambeson 17 guard 87 armor 2 star fresh craft. I look at the alterations to craft a 3 star version and it is 16 guard 86 armor. Why would an alteration to 3 star reduce the effectiveness? or is it a bug?

That screen shows default stats, if you have the path perk which boosts armor by 10 percent or whatever it is then the 3 star armor will end up being either 17 or 18 guard and 94 or 95 armor.

I just jumped in and crafted one and it was 18 and 95, guess it rounds up.

This is the one I have an issue with, you cant change the bonus ability to armor referring to the "Skill item". Why? The crafting is limited to nonsense attributes and you have no malleability. This make armor crafting very weak in the grand scheme of things. Great to have when you achieve the level, but it is terrible long term. Example Shielding IV? why can't I put precision or crit, or some other bonus here. Crafting is lame in this game.

If you're referring to helmet bonuses, you can. A master tinkerer can break down a helmet and get a stamp that can then be applied to another helmet and overwrite the existing bonus with the new one. Don't like Shielding IV throw on something else and get a free attack whenever attacked.
