My favorite use is the Wrestler. As they level up, they become a one-on-one killing machine. If the enemies are bunched together, your pugalist will also attack them if certain conditions are met. it's really neat. Also, the sync kills are cool.

1. Offensive or Defensive is randomly chosen at the beginning of the turn and a buff is attached. See the icon for which stance is assigned.
2. If you attack while in the chosen stance, an attack of opportunity will be triggered once and the buff will be removed. In other words, it is triggered once per turn.
3. If the attack of opportunity is not triggered, such as by attacking in the different stance or by killing the target in the first attack, the buff is kept.

It shows you a little challenge icon, which stance effect you have to trigger to get the AoO. If you have the skill, that lets you have both stance effects once a round as well, it is a free AoO every round.

The pugilist is by far one of my favorite classes. I just got the game about 2 weeks ago so I got to use it right out of the gate. It specializes in multi-hit combos with different stance combinations and attacks of opportunity as people mentioned before.

Personally I like the brawler subclass because it can use medium armor but the skills it gains benefit dps over survivability. I prefer them over rangers because rangers are too squishy if they get caught out in the open; as long as your pugilist doesn't get targeted by more than 2 enemies they should survive until you can get backup in there.

That being said, in my experience, they struggle vs armor and excel against unarmored targets or lightly armored targets (rangers, archers, spearmen, etc). Since they have lower attack damages on their attacks (30/40/50%), high guard and armored targets eat up their attacks. They hit multiple times, so they will trigger riposte multiple times, making it bad news to engage enemies with built in riposte, such as guards that riposte on crit. Because they attack multiple times, they will also chew threw 1-time buffs such as protection and can crit multiple times in a row.

Once you get the challenge perk you can trigger attacks of opportunity. This makes them extremely strong in rat infestations because if done correctly you can kill 3 rats with 1 pugilist, and that is with no aoe abilities. They also make excellent valor generators when targeting squishy classes and generating valor on kill. Highly recommend you give them a try and watch your enemies die to 100 punches.

I don't struggle with heavy armors so much.
Skullbreaker(Bruiser) / Personal Challenge / Brutal Frenzy / Unstoppable / Thrashing
Perforating Oil + Putrid Oil&Concentrate.
If ultra tough one, Thrashing punches for it.
