Also a reason to keep crafting some gear, so you can equip them cause they are 2 levels lower. it is the way it is cause, of the 1 extra free Apitude point the new Recruits have.
Also cause if you get a lucky find, they can be better then your original characters with 2 positives and no Negatives. and 15 willpower.

The ones I can remember off the top of my head are:
the wounded ranger in Tiltren, the "heretic" alchemist in Arthes, the imprisoned Inquisitor in Ludern, the fighting imprisoned couple and jailor in Drombach, of which you can only recruit one, the imprisoned warrior Captain Esme in Belerion, and the swordsman wastrel Alderick von Hoevendorp in Grinmmer (though you must complete Grinmeer and revist the Midnight Gardens with the necessary key to free him from the brothel).
NB: if you have horses that are lagging in level, these companions *will* then be lower level than your mercs, as the horses count as party members for the lowest level in your company.
