Concerns or maybe I'm just stupid
So I've played this game for almost 69(nice) hours now and actually just played the game for real at 40 hours because I thought turns had sequences and didn't know I could let any of my characters move when it was my turn. This is one of my major concern, are the enemies supposed to be one level higher than your current troops, almost all of my characters are level 5 in my most recent and most successful run yet all the enemies are all level 6 and it has been made harder because they outnumber us and have better gear while I still have iron weapons and ghost armor. I always do the "apprentice friends" for a start but I recently was searching for something on google and stumbled upon a ranking of the best starts and the "apprentice friends" seem to be the last. I want to know how to play this game better since I really enjoy it. It's kind of similar to when I started playing Kenshi, very difficult start but I enjoy it nonetheless.

I guess, you are playing with adaptive regions?
In locked region mode the enemies are mainly equal, but you should do the regions in a special order.
A good hint, what level the enemies in a region are the weapon caravans.
The weapons and armor they sell are equal to the level.

Adaptive or Region-locked? Because on Region-locked the enemy levels are the levels and so that's totally normal.
All the starts do is dictate which classes your starting members are and what special task you gain points for completing, ignore that "best start" nonsense, it doesn't matter past the literal start. Give them the backstory you like.

I've only used adaptive because it gave me the idea that I could just go wherever the ♥♥♥♥ I wanted so is that the reason the enemies are all one level above me?

OHHHHHH that's very helpful, I actually stopped playing Wartales because I was getting tired of being outnumbered and having really hard battles overall.

I don't know which order to go. Oohh so basically the starting party doesn't really matter that much? I guess it really just depends on how I play then.

I looked for the classes I wanted at the beginning and which negative perk to deal with.
I think, less weight is a minor problem out of all to choose.
There are also guides in which order to go for the regions.
Tiltren is the best to start.

Thank you for sharing. I think I might start using region-locked for my campaigns now. I never really cared for the start because the characters will change eventually. I will take into account the negative traits tho.

If you are up for closer to Kenshi(or probably Battle Brothers will be a better reference) experience play on adaptive.
Starting party is best to be criminals as they have Criminal and Chaos special path missions which is the hardest to level up. (every background have there own). Critical hit and +5% DEX\STR positive traits are best to go. Knowledge or Carry Weight is best negatives as they will only affect you in the beggining.
Here is a map guide if you like. You can see a leveled map for region locked if you will go with it anyway. Though it can help you understand as enemy progression goes for adaptive too as different regions bring new enemies and weapon mechanics that could be hard at first if you don't know how to deal with them. And most of the secrets and resource points(not include DLC yet).

I actually have battle brothers on my wishlist but didn't pick it up since I guess it didn't look good to me after playing wartales. I didn't want to try using guides because they kind of ruin new games for me, I want to discover the world myself. At this point, I will start a new run without the adaptive mode on. Thank you for you input.

For the love of god don't disregard Battle Brothers for there looks. It's a very good game and in some aspects are superior then Wartales though later have some more depth in others and graphics being one of them.
Well just don't scroll past the World Map then =P

I'll definitely take that into consideration haha!! Tbh I don't really care for graphics in the first place. It's just I that after playing Wartales I don't think anything comes close for turn-based tactic combat. In my new run, I made a sorority. I think this run will be kind of fun but I don't know yet lol.
