I am unaware of any benefits to laundering *consumable* items in the chest before using them. But other may be able to tell me I am wrong?
if i steal $1000 of food and eat them right away, and get caught by guards for stealing $200 item, do i pay 200 or 1200?
i was confused earlier test
(1 single red recipe inside laundering box, get caught right next to jail, paid "90ish tax", go into jail and steal another one and it tells me that i steal from jail, also stole some wood from lumberyard which were already paid?)
If I understand the mechanics correctly, then using an item that is flagged as stolen (still has its red outline) will count that item's cost as "disposed goods" and contribute to your penalty if caught by the guard. So, if you already have a fine of 200 built up, and use 1000 worth of skill books, your total fine would just go straight up to 1200 since those books were "disposed" without first laundering them.
As far as I can tell, this counts for all methods of consuming or otherwise destroying an item - so, eating stolen food or using stolen materials to craft something will still build up their cost as "disposed goods" unless laundered.
Laundering just reduces the fine amount
