When do you start finding purple gear
My mercs are almost level 10 and outside of the one 2H Mace you get that does massive damage to Mosquitoes they don't seem to exist.

I got a 2H mace and bow from the first two region bosses and a 2H as well as a 1H mace from exploring the tombs in those regions. You can find purple artifacts(?) in those tombs and then need to study them at the lectern in your camp.

I have 4 at the moment (~ lvl 7, 2 regions)
1 from Arean
2 from Antiquity Restoration
1 from Region Boss

They are not random. Arenas, region bosses, tombs and some quests grant them.

The primary source for them is Tombs, Region Bosses and Arena Brawls. There are several apart from that, but those are the main sources.

Tombs will yield fragments of a broken item in blue, yellow or purple quality. Purple fragments researched at a Lectern over multiple rests will be restored into Weapons.

Do tomb runs, Arenas and Bossfights.
The earlier the better, if you wait to long it becomes more difficult to get them. You can easily get them between lvl 3 and 5.

Why does it become more difficult to get them at higher level? Also is there a tutorial on how to use the lectern? As it isn't very intuitive. Just stick something in it then have to spam different combinations of many choices til you get right combo.

I would disagree that it becomes harder to get them later.

The lectern isn't that hard to use, not sure what's difficult. Drop item in, rest, repeat until item completed.

when i put something in it gave like 12 options to pick 3 from (and you just had to guess which 3 are the right 3) it doesn't even tell you which one is right if you had 1 out of 3 correct

If you wait longer the enemies have more perks. I had a very good time at lvl 3 because i had every possible armor-upgrade.(expert adaptive) The game is much easier if you upgrade everything before you even go into battle. Can be boring, but it works. At lvl 5 I had almost every legendary item and it wasn't very challenging to get them. So don't level up to early.

Also if you grab your first legendary it's much easier to get the next one. I started with the tomb of arthes to get the legendary 1H Mace followed by the bow from the bossfight and the legendary shield from the arena (same Province). I didn't do this in my last campaign and i was definitely weaker. In adaptive mode its important to keep the mercenaries at the same level, because of levelscaling.
