Companions attacking the same enemy, healing/buffing each other and sitting near each other in camp raises their relationship and once they hit +3 they are most likely going to fall in love, so if you're one of the "Only heterosexual relationships allowed in this company" crowd, make up duos of male/female companions and keep them working only with each other.
Even if you are not wanted, do not run into law enforcers. They might still want to search you, even though you are below 100 :)
Though stealing is not necessarily required, we just started a new run on Expert and only stole onces a bit salt so far. Though we know Tiltren already well, therefore we know were to go to get good/free stuff. (Stealing consumable stuff like 'books' however is always recommendable, as you can use them up and therefore get rid of any evidence anyway)
Catching and turning in cut throats are one of the best ways to make additional money.
Also go look for a city first and get some bounties.
Getting a cook station will help you with food issues, just always have a enough salt with you and fight animals from time to time.
Zone based scaling makes the game more enjoyable, adaptive scaling can be very painful if you do not get some good armor and weapons drops early.
I just want to make a clarification to this for anyone looking in this thread for tips, the "former military units" are 'Deserters' and they are accepted to guard jails.
Deserters are technically their own faction, they get their own faction passive, they have their own armours/classes, they have their own troop icon. However, the units themselves are tagged as 'Outlaws' in their information screens (Right clicking units, under their name), any unit tagged as an Outlaw is accepted at prisons, not just units from the Outlaw faction specifically.
Also, never accept your initial combat deployment. You can move your people to any blue square or swap them with each other. This counts for allies, too. This way you don't have one of your squishies facing a tank all by herself in some obscure corner of the battlemap. {ask me how I learned that one! Rest in peace, Karen the Cross-Eyed...)
focus on the building/upgrading the tent and next strategy bench and skill points that give valour points and max valour points, these make you much stronger in battle.
Building a Trade post as soon as you can allows you a town storage chest of unlimited capacity you can dump all the stuff in that you want to keep but don't want to carry around everywhere.
Never sell Purple "Fragments of an ancient item" from the end of the tombs - these are legendary weapons that will be reformed after doing research on them.
There is no pass turn. When it's your turn you can select any one of your people to act. But as far as the turn order, it can't be changed.
