You could watch some of the game play videos to see if this game appeals to you.
BG3 is a story driven fullfledged RPG, while Wartales is an open world warband management strategy game. Only thing they have in common is that they both feature turn-based combat. And the combat in Wartales is much more unforgiving than in Baldur's Gate 3. Especially if you play Iron Man. You really need to think twice about entering a combat and/or people will die, permanently. You are in charge of a band of mercenaries and people succumbing to wounds, diseases and whatnot is part of everyday life. On the bright side: The game allows you to bury fallen comrades and beasts, so you can in essence build your own graveyard somewhere.
In Wartales you need to pay and feed your mercenaries, build your camp and manage camp life (who will cook, who will stand watch, who brightens the mood with a tune around the campfire), etc., which means you will always be looking for some well-paid knifework, food, resources and maybe fulfill some minor quests for some peasant or Lord along the way. Or become a band of highwaymen and rob merchants. Up to you.
But every day your people and horses want to be fed, and every couple of days they all expect cold, hard cash (not the horses, ofc). They are, at least in the beginning (or the better part of the game, for that matter), not in it for the fun, glory and friends they make along the way.
