XP gain is broken
One shot few boars? ~50 XP awarded
Win a fight vs bigger party of higher level by skin of my teeth, using tons of consumables just not to die? Maybe ~60XP awarded
I don't want to grind level 1 trash for next 10 hours

Yeah, unfortunately it's pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and known and raised by many. Anyway, best to get used to fighting higher leveled enemies because it's gonna be the norm later on. Once you get to Ludern, make sure to beat the arena asap to get the training dummy, helps with leveling.

100% agree. Late game has become such a chore for me I dont really enjoy the game anymore. Its sad, i want to finish this game but with my group being stuck at level 9-10 fighting level 12 enemies is just such a long drawn out affair i'm getting bored. Like the above post mentioned you can get the training dummy but I didnt even know that existed until like 100 hours into my playthrough, maybe it would have helped a bit, i dunno.

That sounds really intimidating. Wanted to buy the game but literally everyones states that the "endgame" progress, especially the last few levels are so grindy that it sucks out all the fun hmm

There's a mod on Nexus that cuts the XP needed to level up by half. Install that mod when your troop is around level 7-8 and the progression feels good.

I'm just finishing up in Gosenberg, and my guys are mostly level 10, some close to 11. The final region should get most of them to 12 without much, if any, grinding. (Requires using the training dummy as early as possible).

Its really really sad. I was so into this game early on. The first few levels your building your team and choosing their perks and it feels so rewarding. Past level 3 its all passive bonuses and the grind to level up is brutal and when you finally level up you get to pick an attribute to increase. Wow...its random too, sometimes the attribute you get to pick doesnt even matter to your class....and when you finally get to pick a perk, its so damn boring. Your basically levelling up to get better gear which is just a repeat of what you already had but with better stats.

The game sucked me in early, and I dont regret my time with the game but its sad i'm just going to stop cold turkey and probably never coming back to it and never finishing it. Thats after like 160 hours of playing, but i just cant handle these long drawn out battles anymore, i just have zero motivation to see this game to the end.

I did adaptive easy survival expert combat with 8 mercs by the end of the 2nd region. Stayed with 8 guys the rest of the game. My party was level 9-10 after completing everything in the game minus the Rouste fields that spawn after you do the first one. I did not grind much except around level 4-5 for white leather. I can't imagine trying to reach L12 for the top crafted gear or, god forbid, L15.

There are a lot of cool perks down the line that make it quite interesting. Not sure why you guys are getting bored. I would even drop some people to try out new styles and troop makeups. I think you all are just grinding in the wrong way. Encounters seem to have ways to play them that make them very easy or very hard. I've run from a few that i knew i just didn't have the personnel to fight them and others i just wallop with ease. Though i do run with 3 alpha wolves and a bear. I want to try other troop makeups though!

Agree! I find that the XP is the same for every battle regardless of the enemy's level. Maybe higher level battles should give more XP? Otherwise I would choose to brush up to full level at the birth point.

The problem is I've never gotten more than 60-ish xp, for a fight I barely won against overwhelming odds (more enemies of higher level with gear better than whatever random garbage I found) and I don't think I've ever got less than 40-ish, even for some clown fights of 14 vs 1 quest guy. It takes thousands XP points once you get past first few levels, so I'm not sure how it's not boring. You can't really experiment at all because it takes hours upon hours to level up. Once I left Tiltren I barely leveled up at all, despite fighting every single thing I could

Well, not "literally everyone". While I agree that advancing beyond level 9 is extremely "grindy", I still enjoy the game. You just have to have a high tolerance for combat, which is 95% of gameplay anyway.
korkk May 19, 2023 @ 7:11pm
the xp situation needs a patch fast the combat is fun but there is no reason it should take hundreds of battles to go from lvl 11 to 12
Ricky Icky May 19, 2023 @ 7:34pm
Even profession xp is broken. I can level cooking and alchemy 100 times over fishing or woodcutting.
Unimax May 19, 2023 @ 8:30pm
I just installed the mod to half after reaching lvl 7. now nearly finished with the game with lvl 11 team. i cant imagine the old exp feeling just right, but hate the fact that i hate to use mod.
Jhones May 20, 2023 @ 12:09am
I don't understand why the devs haven't said anything about the massive negative feedback they're received about the grind past lvl7. Total radio silence.

I've just accepted that the game died for me after 3 regions because my guys are lvl 7/8 and I just can't face the boring arse grind to get anymore abilities.

The lack of progression just means that every battle ends up being the same. You're actively punished by recruiting more mercs to try out new things, because there's no way to leave people out of the fight. So you end up fighting hordes of enemies making gaining that 60xp even more tedious.

Hearing now about the half XP mod is a light at the end of the tunnel. Provided mods aren't a ballache to install.

Just give us Workshop support already.

thanks. was thinking about buying this game.. looks fun, review looks overwhelming but this isn't the grind i am looking forward to.
