I'm going with scaling, as they introduced an option to reduce the difficulty mid-game. (difficulty≠game mode)
It doesn't mean you won't get any challenges ahead cause since the enemies are not scaling with you, the regions are having their own levels and if you are not strong enough before you enter them you might lose units in your very first battle. :)
With a good strategy and also by saving before of every battle it's definately great and casually good.
If you like going to areas where you are so much stronger than the enemy (after a time) and you get joy out of that, then Region Locked. (Or - if you like wandering into areas where you definitely shouldnt be yet).
For me I hate finding tough content, only to beat it, then proceed to easier content.
Its not black and white though - its easier getting meat and leather in Adaptive, for example, due to the sheer amount of boars/wolves that scale to you.
And I feel like you'd get more milage out of prisoners/slaves/animals in region locked. When you need to boost yer numbers, even temporarily.
I feel like combat is harder / keeps a pace with you in adaptive, but maybe some survival elements are harder / other ways to play shine in Region Locked. Its probably worth giving both a whirl.
I'll go adaptive for my release run, so that I can have a smaller mercenary band. Region-locked pushes you to have a larger and larger group, as the enemies you face start to come in bigger groups. A smaller squad in adaptive should face equal-ish sized squads.
tried this, but geez, every fight is like an intense game of chess. Too much thinking for me :)
