I said it once in this forum, but I will say again.
There is an event in BB that gives you a new recruit, which that background alone is memorable.
[Not 100% accurate] - The random event was about a angry mob chasing a man. They say what he did was not right and wants to punish him. I think you can either let the mob do their work or save the man. If you save man, he thanks you, and joins your band. Then you see he has a nickname "the Filly Fiddler". Turns out that man f*cked a horse and the villagers were angry because of it.
Random events are fun. I hope they add it to Wartales in the future, or at least add more background to current characters. Torus for example is really boring.
Wartales is way easier than BB. But BB becomes pointless if you savescum. So if you are not into savescumming, BB needs more time to git gud, but its worth it when you do. Ironman all the way for me. But BB have RNG. (Attacks are not 100%, 95% hit chance maximum and 5% hit chance minimum). If you are not into RNG... dont play BB at all. Missing three 95% in a row, will make you lose your mind.
Clearly it's a bit bland - ish for some and I get that characters look samey and have not much of a personality but I never felt overwhelmed anywhere in the game meanwhile at BB everything is ♥♥♥♥ from the start and your stupid mercs will die while the game laughs at you throwing stupid RNG choices at you where you are bound to lose and get frustrated immediately.
Mercenary life is hard.
Because losing is not fun (for me) and if I want a "get gud" challenge I try my mercenary mindset in real life with real people and real work.
I don't disagree with you. It took me a good 20 hour to figure out BB, and then it got hard. I played the hell out of it. At this moment, I have about 1/5th of the total playtime I had in BB. Though, I am enjoyed WarTales a lot, and if they keep adding good content, I will certainly stick with it.
I have over 100h in Wartales, I just started when it exited Early Access and love 90% of the time. I am a very picky gamer, both harsh and blunt with my criticism and I am holding back about Wartales a lot, simply because it is exactly what I wanted BB to be and it is so much more. Just two minor gripes I barely find worth talking about:
The mini-games overstay their welcome and should be automated on mastery level and the lack of personalisation (c.f. this thread) seems to be quite the issue. I loathe what they did with the trading posts and the skills are weird, broken or bugged but I won't get into more details about it. I will probably live stream this soon and pick it apart during the stream.
If a merc excels in his duty I get his name and face tattooed on my chest.
During dinner I enjoy eating my alphabet soup according to their initials.
Loyalty.
Such as (POTENTIAL SPOILERS)...
I came across a farmer infected by the plague who asked me to kill him before he becomes a danger to his wife. I opted to recruit him and cure him of the plague. He was a warrior class and I chose to make him a berzerker. So my head canon is while he was cured, the plague left some lingering effects on him which is why he's so vicious in battle.
I also assign professions to my mercs based on how it might relate to the characters I see them as. Such as my brute captain who I see as a seasoned veteran but enjoys the calm of fishing. Or a pretty boy archer who I made a bard.
As well as doing what I can to give each different hairstyles, colors, etc as best I can with the options available so they can look more unique. Also helps identify them better in combat.
The game could certainly benefit with more customization options and such but so far I like my growing band.
I do the same.
Same here.
Yup, to me, this is who the game was built for. Those looking to min/max, crush everything on hard mode and beat the game in most efficient and effective manor possible....are simply playing the wrong game.
