XP progression is broken for the last zone
I have 100 hours in my first playthrough because I am 100% every zone and maxing all my crafting etc. My group of 12 are all level 9 and now that I am moving to the final zone all the enemies there are 11/12.

What gives? After 100 hours I dont have the right level for the next zone? I get 60xp/char per fight... I know there are other ways of getting xp (i 100% everything) but it is still incredibly slow.

I have resorted to get a mod to take me from 9 to 11 and then remove it. But the devs really need to look into this.

You need to be using the Training Dummy station in the camp. It levels up a character in ~12 rests, and can level two characters at once.

Doing this while completing the second half of Ludern, all of Grinmeer, and some extra days doing Trade Goods runs around the map will get a couple of characters up to level 10/11 before the end of the game.

The other option is to recruit level 12 Bears, and capture level 12 prisoners in Drombach then recruit them. Getting and converting lvl 11+ prisoners really boosts party strength because they can equip the level 12 gear.

I agree with the OP, I've just gotten into Drombach and boom ! I have 100%-ed the previous zones, I have 4 level 9s, 2 level 7s and 6 level 8s. Leveling has been very slow during all of the Ludern province, and all the mobs there were level 7-8. Then I move into Drombach and I am meeting groups of 16 level 11s.

At first I though that I may have missed a region, but a bit of googling told me that I haven't. Now I am not sure what to do. On the one hand I don't want to waste 200 in-game days to level up my guys to 11. On the other, I love the actual process of having my characters progress within the game, so I don't want magick them to level 11.

Like the OP, I think the devs should look into the level progression between Ludern and Drombach.

when i came to Drombach i had a group of 10, with all the guys lvl 8 except one, who was lvl 9.
at first i thought wow lvl 11, but then i realised that 90% of those fights are:

u fighting 10v10, leaving 5 enemies behind, u deal with these 10, then backup comes, and its again 10v10.

With lvl8 crafted gear its fair fights. Soon after progressing i recruited lvl11 rogue and put my crafted lvl11 gear on it, one of my guys died, and i was doing the questline like this. so now i have 3 rogues lvl11, others are lvl 9

i am 60% done in drombach

the point is that it doesnt matter that they are lvl11, with level 8 its a fair fight because:
- gear is matching
- the way the actual fight plays out is in your favor

but to be fair its kinda boring, for some reason almost every fight in this region has 1-2 backups and its annoying

You're just going about this the wrong way. In Drombach many crooks have to be "saved". ;-)

It's not that I'm super scared of level 11 mobs, I did not explain myself very well. Story-wise I'm quite attached to my group, I don't want to replace them with new people, I probably shouldn't have given them the names of RL friends :). But seeing how slowly leveling up from 7 to 9 has been, I don't see my guys reaching level 11 within this last zone, unless it is much larger than the previous one. I guess I'll wait, maybe something will change in a patch.

yeah i feel like by the ened of the zone i will have 4 guys lvl1 others will be level 10 and maybe couple of 9s :( i agree that it would be nice to fix that, otherwise its kinda bs u are teased with lvl11 armor since level 5-6 and ull never be able to wear it completely
Knatternick May 6, 2023 @ 12:46pm
That's nonsense. You can recruit level 7 people and your blacksmith (if you trained him as a master) can build you some decent armor and weapons. Very easily.

You can only reach LVL 9 path and get the last reward at lvl 7, 4 more orders to unlock...

And then you can craft lvl 11 Akhedian gear.

Ofc the leveling is slow and the gear mostly unused, maybe there will be more regions and the slow development of the crew will be more fitting

You'll need an upgraded dummy, a banner, and some grinding. My mates are 8-9 and 2-3 captured level 11 bandits

The endgame leveling is im my opinion dumb and poorly thought/optimised. Why even bother interacting with game and world when the only thing you have to do after packing money is stay besides a city and spam rest until all your mercs are at the level of your convenance. Training dummy gives 5 times more xp to 2 mercs than a endgame fight. Camp take 15 sec to launch. XP via fighting, travelling on the other hand...

Xp given by endgame fights should be reworked to be the primary source of XP.

^ This. +1.
The last 3 levelups were added outside of EA, nobody got to do any extensive testing. It needs a rebalance. We've had a silent time from the Devs- maybe they're on a break after the launch?

Same thing happens to me. Fighting outnumbered with 3-4 level gap is extremely difficult. My solution is to capture a few animals in the new zone which is level 11 (with archer skill to control of course) to cover the difficulty gap I’ve been through. It’s makes my fight a lot easier after I capture 5 bears, but at the cost of affording 60 extra food each day.

This is very frustrating watching my old fellows becoming out of date in my opinion and very unbalanced.

There are a few comments about training dummy. I mentioned I 100% everything before last zone so yes I am using that. I am just not repeat camping to lvl up as that is not fun.

And I agree that we my maxed out crafting gear, padding, oils and every epic weapon lvl up I am able to take on groups 2 lvls higher. But I will finish this zone without even hitting lvl 11. So what is the point of lvl 11 gear...

It is just not balanced. I should be able to hit max lvl on the last zone and the enemies can have +2 lvls on me only for npcs to adjust difficulty. That is how a game is designed. Not make craftable gear of a lvl that will never be used unless you like grinding past the story. But if you grind to 12 than all fights will be trivial so what is the point?
Klarum May 7, 2023 @ 3:43am
By the way the maxed out strategy table is the single major factor in making fights easier. You can choose strategies that split and spread enemy groups into packs of 5 and you can group all of your guys meaning you get to pick them one group at the time.

This way you can even run a group of 5 and easily beat 15-20 enemies.

I think you're overlooking the game mode of the leveling opponents. I'm playing the other variant and I guess that's why it exists. Also, the game isn't complete. I think there will be updates, addons etc. The world map is more black than revealed.
