How do you feel about the ranger's weapon of choice?
I think dualwielding a dagger plus a 1H sword would make perfect sense for the ranger (kinda maybe even two 1H swords and other 1H weapons, but thats not really for me, that would be nice just as an option) and it would be cool. Also my main point is it makes MORE sense than just using one single dagger. I mean it always feels weird that any soldier would straight up pick only one single dagger as his weapon of choice for skirmish battles. Where it would make perfect sense to pick only a single dagger are some assassination types of missions, not a fullblown combat. I mean I love rogue-like classes, but not this WoW fantasy type, lets make the ranger more like a cunning fencer (and I dont mean only rapiers, but also regular arming swords, messers etc.). Take as an example Viper witchers (for visual reference google Gwent cards of them) or Peacekeeper from For Honor (might check execution animations of her on yt).
Also we might open dualwielding for the warrior classes if someone wants a choice of a bit berserker-like character (not exactly a thing for me, but hey, options are always nice Imho).

Just think of old Drizzy...2 nice 1 hand swords...that would be something.
The single dagger is thematic.

speaking of Rangers.... ie "RANGE-rs", why do RANGErs in this game have zero range? They should be called Assassins. Was something lost in translation?

A ranger is someone who patrols, sometimes called ranging, has nothing to do with ranged attacks as they are the scouts of the merch band with high MOV

Could also be a nod to military Rangers who deal in surprise raids, what with the Rangers love of butt-stabbing and all

Exactly, profession of rangers in middle ages was a spectrum of scouts, messengers, hunters, long range patrollers etc., so they could use pretty much any weapon, but comfortably wearable melee ones + ranged weapons makes the most sense for them...

Dual wielding weapons is far less realistic than joining combat carrying only a dirk.
I'm genuinely glad that there's finally a game where just one dagger is carried by the scout class. And they're rangers because they range and roam, not because they attack from range.

Also lets include bucklers.

More realistic for a roaming class is actually one single sword, all who could afford a sword were wearing one (all those who not were wearing a dagger or some toolaxe/hammer), because its so easy to carry it almost no matter what you do, but most also already were wearing a knife as a tool, so some choosed to dualwield the two to compensate for shield (or they ofc carried also buckler) or just used only the sword because they were comfortable with focusing only on a single weapon. Nobody in the position of the class in the game would choose only the dagger, maybe only at the very beggining of the game when you are poor band of bastards, but for most of the scenerios most likely not even there. Single dagger is the weapon of choice for assassins/infiltrators or peasants.
Then realistically after that goes dualwielding axe/mace/hammer with a sword.
Then two swords.
Then axe/mace/hammer with a dagger.
And the least realistic one is dualwielding two axes/maces/hammers
Fact is "rangers" are really "assassins" in drag

Personaly it looks like a short sword more than a dagger. Throwing knives look like dagger/knife alright, but the dagger itself is definitely a short sword.
How about a Rapier or dedicated thrusting sword option.

Huntsmen's swords were sufficiently prevalent that even mid 18th century riflemen had them before being issued bayonets.
