You need to place them in your inventory first.
When clicking at the Lectern to open it, click at the codexes and you will get an option to apply 3 runes to it.
Since you got the codex, you also have been exploring a ruin, meaning you got some runes to start with.
Click at three different ones and check if the codex at the right part tells you if and how many runes are correct. Use several combinations to apply the runes until it's a full match.
I'm not sure what happens after that, as I've never been able to decode a codex up to now, as I don't have all available runes (yet).
But I assume you need to put it in the Lectern, assign a scolar to the Lectern and wait an "X" number of rests to have the codex translated.
Thorin :)
ah ok. No i never translated one. Im still in the first region. Just cleared out the dungion.
But solving the 3 codexes for 3 free knowledge is really great, and a big reason to clear each crypt immediately when you can.
