Completing all 4 of them gives you a small chance, based on your Smiths skill vs. the item being created, of getting a 3 star item instead of just a 2 star item. The stats are better, and in my experience a 3 star item is better than the next upgrade version if it were just a 1 star item (i.e.: Iron helmet *** > Ghost Helmet *).
This aspect of the game is not a "knowable" things to players as it is a semi-rare event, and it is just something you uncover with play.
I too, like the above poster have a tank heavy team. My team consists of 4 tanks with shields all with over 170 armor and ~60 total guard (before buffs) with Rimsteel gear. And none of them have 3 star equipment right now. One of the earlier Iron armor suits was a 3 star, which was great.
A tank heavy team of 3 or 4 with 3 or 4 support/damage dealers is very, very strong. At level 6 and 7, the tanks are often hit for 1 to 2 points of damage, and sometimes as high as 7 on a crit.
hitting all 4 plates golden glow ever gives the best outcome, the same as it gives you on top to 100% a 3th layer slot when you have the perk for it.
only thing is that you even with only 3 golden plates have a chance that you get the best outcome. (a to high one in my book, because it still seems to be 50/50)
I'm not sure what you mean, but perhaps this is difficulty setting dependent. That would be good to know.
I play on the highest difficulty, and when I do the mini-game and hammer all 4 perfectly, the quality of the item is the same 2 star item as if I had gotten 3 out of 4 perfectly + 1 normal hammering.
This includes armor slots. I've always gotten the max number of armor slots by getting 3 perfect hammerings out of 4 + 1 normal hammering, or 4 out of 4 perfectly.
Nearly all items I make this way are 2 stars in quality. If I'm lucky, I can get a 3 star quality item, but only if I do all 4 hammerings perfectly, and some further random chance.
My chances to get a 3 star item quality after getting 4 perfectly is roughly 1/20 or 1/15. Not common.
3/4 good hits really feels the same as 4/4 good hits.
Perfect hits dont guarantee 3 star.
Its not easy to get Perfect hits (there's an extra glow & <0.8s window for Akhedian), I only do so 1 in 10 times, yet Im not rewarded with 3 stars.
The base 3 star rate feels to be about 10 ~ 15%.
That bumps up to about 20 ~ 30% with a Swage item.
Anyway, Im looking forward to the next update where the devs promised that blacksmith can upgrade the quality of items.
Hear hear!
A FYI for players who aren't aware. The Swage raises the chance of getting 3 Starred Gears when upgrading. So, you can still get em under normal circumstances. The chance is just lower.
Also, you can get 3 Star gears even if you don't get all 4 hits perfectly, as long as you get at least 3 hits in, the chance exists. It's just very low and very random.
now that i got my 1st 3 star my game halted coz i keep save scumming now to get a 3 star equipment XD
and it dont helped that before a armor needed 3* to get 3 slots...
im a perception victim of all the changes over time.
