Anyone else struggling with prisoners?
They seem to escape quite often for me, even though I have the watchkeeping stool & plenty of men around prisoners. 70% of the time I have to go on a hunt to find my prisoners (I have 2) back in the world, making it bit annoying to progress, and always losing chains.

Are there any factors I'm missing here?

1. Did you have companions (not animals) nearby prisoner? You must have at least four.
2. Did someone of your companion not have 'sleepy' trait? This trait not prevent prisoner from escape, if you put him near prisoner.
3. Did you healed injury from prisoner? If yes, then you've lost additional 20% chance, to prevent him from escape.

1) Yeah, they are close, but working on items, like workshop, chest or sitting near campfire.
2) No sleepy
3) I didn't

Heal them give them toothpaste and a haircut but only if you are trying to get them to join you.

Try to surround them by putting the prisoner sitting at the campfire and putting as many others around them (hint: move/rotate some of the camp equipment around so they are surrounded as much as possible with your guys)
Before you rest, save your game. After you rest, save your game.

If he just doesn't want them to escape, he can also use animals, don't use the same mercenary/animal for a different prisoner. Look them up what is their % chance of escaping, after they're surrounded.

Does ether help to put around those prisoners in your camp?
If you want to simply hold them, use the stocks.
If you want to hold them and use them for labor, you may use animal guards.
If you want them to join, then human guards are needed.

Animals have a base tile of 3x3. One animal can overlap 2 adjacent prisoners easily. You can do this with a human, with careful placement.

the watchchair is only against ambushes, it does zero against runaways.
just buy and build the stock, you can clip 4 prisoners at it and they cant run away than....

I figured it out, apparantly you under their character sheet a stat called "escape ability", just move in camp around a little bit so it gets to 20%. I can finally start the game again. :D thanks for comments though, animals & stocks is something I wanna test still.

No. It's really mostly useless for keeping prisoners. The problem is that it gives you a bonus of 10% (basically an "odd" bonus) and it doesn't help you at all. If you want to keep the prisoners in the camp, you must (want to) have 100% (no less). It basically doesn't matter if you have 80 or 90%... anyway, they'll be constantly running away from about the fifth day... so you always need 5 guards (or better 4+damage) to keep them.
...the only time it could help with prisoners is if you take a negative trait on encountering enemies at the start of the game (+10%)...then it saves you one guard.

Even with 100%, there is that one off chance of them still escaping. I've had it happen to me before.
zaphod Aug 16, 2023 @ 2:51am
It didn't happen to me once and I went through the whole game with it. If there is a 100% chance they want to escape but they are always caught.

EDIT......that value (escape ability) decreases here, so I meant 0% = no escape (successful)

...but they don't do anything, and maybe someone (me) doesn't want that.
If guarding is maximum, then there are no escapes.
