Romance in media has been around since like forever. You have thousands upon thousands of books dedicated to romance, you have the same with movies dedicated to romance, you have TV-shows dedicated to romance etc. The reason is people in general like romance and will buy products related to it. It sells well, and people like to fantasize about it, read about it, watch it, play it, get flowers, romantic gifts... It's just part of human nature. You might not like it, but there's so many who does it will continue to be a thing in games and all kinds of other media.
