Fishing bait

Great game! Everything makes sense, except for fishing bait?
Where do I get bait from?
How come I always have a couple but cant see them?
The icon is what looks like a carp but isn't really.
This really doesn't make any sense!
Can anyone please explain fishing bait.

As a first time fisher you can only fish from the fish shacks and the bait is there and limited. After that Not sure have not played the mini game till the last area that requires a high level fisherman to finish a quest..

There's bait? I didn't think that was actually a thing. The carp icon is just how many fish are in the pond and it always starts at 3. Then you of course have your fish hooks and one is always used up when you finish the mini game and catch 3 fish. I assume you lose a hook if you fail the mini game, but it's so easy I've never seen that happen. Bait, however, I don't believe exists.

So after playing a while I figured out that you pretty much have 3 tries on every fishing-node.
I'm not sure about the respawn time however.
You can loose fishing hooks without failing so it's recommended to have some spare

There is no bait, all you require is a fishing hook. Each hook gives you three attempts before it is consumed. Each fishing spot has 3 fish in it, and once you have caught them, you will have to a wait a few in-game days for them to respawn. Not sure how many in-game days, but less than a week. In summary, grinding fishing levels is painfully slow.

when you level up your fishing you can make sturdy hooks, but these require "bait" to craft. dont have any though :/ dont know where to get it

Bait comes from clearing rat nest

Clearing a Rat nest will give you X amount of bait. I just got 19 from my first nest. Cleared all the pillars and killed probably 5-6 waves of rats. (12 mercs)
