raw materials
I wonder if there is an efficient way to get or craft them, so far I've only found the blacksmith has some, but his stock does not seem to recover a lot, considering how much asmor is depleted in combat. And yes, I've already unlocked those knowledge abilities which restore more armor points.

Hi. Assign someone from you party to be a Tinkerer. Let him/her work at the workbench & he will create 2 every time you camp. Other wise buy from the town smithy or wandering merchants. If you bring the captured black smith to the Refugee HQ he will sell it like at the smithy. Good luck.

OK, thanks, so other then those 2 you get from the tinkerer when camping you are dependent from npcs who sell it. I wish there would be another way to get them,
just like food and iron, considering how fast armor degrades

generally, I think that loot is too scarce, comparing to this game, Battle Brothers is literally generous. At least, defeated enemy parties should have some food with them, and some raw materials, too, after all they need to survive and repair their broken armor, too, I suppose.

Actually they do not incur any penalties. Don't compare this to BB. It is not the same. Never come across any food loot unless you hit a merchant selling it. Except if you are into cannibalism. Need 1 Knowledge Point to activate it before your party can be one. Then the corpses that shows up in the loot menu can be used as food. In the early game stick with battles near town. Use the town smith to repair your armor post fights. Actually it is cheaper.

Further don't get into a scrape while their armors are damaged. If you did then maybe some of your killers will be tagged with the annoying bad trait which reduces Will Power if not mistaken as long as their armor is damaged. Sorry I forgot the name. If you need to rest with 100 % security you can do so in town. Most shops & the tavern/marketplace allows you to go into the camping grounds. Except the townhall if memory serves me right.
You may ask the smith to do repairs when in town- it saves the use of the kits quite a lot.
I keep a couple spare suits of medium armour ( not too heavy) to swap in when things get really bad and we cannot fix the tanks at all.

there are some things in theis game which don't make any sense, esp. concerning the "survival" aspect of the game. I don't mind if the devs want it to be a challenge, I'm all for it, but in doing so they should take care that the gameplay retains some basic sense. I've already mentioned the fact that defeated parties don't have any food and material parts with them. It's obviously implemented this way to make the player's life harder. But in the gameworld perspective the game tries to create, it does not make any sense. Survival shouldn't be a necessity which concerns only the player.
Another issue is that appropriating anything in a location on the overworld map is regarded as theft which raises the suspicion level. This may make sense if there is anynone around noticing that action. I discovered a location in which there is no one, whoever is there has been murdered, there is some food around, but taking it would again raise the suspicion level nonetheless, while on the other hand picking the lock of the chest there does not. Of course it's done so, because otherwise the player might be not so willing to play the mini-game. But, again, it doese not make any sense. I'm aware that's EA, but these are issues which I really hope will be addresses in time because imho they ruin an essential feature of the gameworld, its credibility.
