Im Starting To Think Food Is Too Heavy And/Or Consumption Way Too High.(Feedback)
It seems that I am having to collect more pack ponies that just end up just holding more food, and the bigger food items are very heavy. Im wondering if the dev could reduce the weight of food, just a teeny tiny bit, so all these pack animals actually have room for all the other crap we need for professions and trading.

(Or maybe its because I have to eat so much of it that I feel like I need to carry alot to stay fed, or both)

most higher quality cooked food gives more foodpoints compared to its weight. but i tend to hold dryed meat as long as i can normaly too, because its weight/foodpoint ratio is ok.

They dont though. They are heavier than their components which is why I never make or keep them. (this isnt about food points, its about weight) Perhaps we are only supposed to make those foods only when we are about to eat them? Which would just be another tedious level of micro managing...

Either way, food in general is just a little too heavy IMO. If this game could be modded, that would be the first thing I would change.

The fact of it all is that Ponies should not require Meat or alcohol. Game designers are not being serious on the issues. You should be buying Oats to feed and only about 2 food per day as they can graze free almost everywhere but Ludern or high up in the snow. Then of course a mechanic should be in to increase food to about 4 not 6. I should not have a pony with ALCOHOLIC Trait. Due to the huge change in food and availability in the current update I have to either get rid of all 5 wolves or wait for the next update As more than half my weight is taken on food stuffs.

wolf sausage and grilled pork for early examples have less weight than the uncooked ones (not to mentation the salttweight on top) with more foodpoints on top when i last looked, but i must admit havnt checked it after the last community patch. so i must loo again first if they changed that. and im very sure the higher up recipes got even more food per weight with buffs on top, and lessend the weight a lot compared to the solo components counted together.
at least i must wonder how you get the "problem" of to much food. for me its mostly the other way around because the wolfs and boars seem to have a nasty long respawn time, what means there are times where i must buy food on the markets or inns because no eatable wildlife is to be found, to the point that i delibaeratly hunt for the phantom fog zones to get some.

I find alot of boars/wolves in packs on freemode. As they scale up with you their packs keep getting bigger and dropping tons of meat. On region locked the animal packs dont seem to scale up at all and therefore you arent going to find as much meat. Thats how it is in the Tiltren region anyway, I have yet to ever explore a new region since Ive started over a number of times to try different settings. But free mode generates alot more animal meat than region locked does.

Stop try to trick People in thinking Region Locked isnt the Easy Mode :)

About Food Weight, Stardust is right however. The Meals weight less as the Components they are combined from. In Some Examples that can be a difference of up to 3lbs per Dish.
But while this is true, most of the Time espacialy at the Start you arnt gonna make only "FUll Coure Meals" and need Meat, Veggies and Alcohol in single to supplement so you dont "Overuse" Food by a lot... for Example if you need 15 Food you never would use 2 Meals, it would be a waste. And that, combined with the Fact, that there are so much Ressources for the other Crafting Options do you need, end up in giving you the Feeling you basicly waste all your Carry Capacity on Food. On higher Level this want become such a big Issuse, espacialy with Packing Horses(the Skill they can get), Ability Points in touhgness(is it named that in englisch?) on horses and the Sattle Back Equipment Item for Horses aswell.....
My New Group for Example on lvl 4, with horses 15 in Total, got a Carry Capacity of 350lbs, from which i use roughtly 300 all the Time, Limits i reach only if i stockpile Loot/Item Drops to Sale later on or do a Trading Run while Changeing locations.

That beeing said you still most likely, depeding on your Merc Count, will use 2-4 Horses at least.

The "Ghost Spawn" also drops meat. If you kill them all in the first or second round, the final boss doesn't even show.
Teralitha 30 Thg07, 2022 @ 4:51am
Something else Ive noticed about food consumption. Wolves. If you inspect a wolf during combat it will show their food consumption as 4 per day and no traits, but if you capture it, its food consumption suddenly jumps up to 8 per day and they randomly learn 1-2 traits plus carniverous.

Why do they get double the food consumption of wild wolves? And why do they eat more than a pack animal which has at least double their mass(visually) Perhaps this is a bug...

Are you guys running parties of several bears? I've never had inventory weight management problems with only 2 ponies, and partys of up to 20 mercs

3 Bears here. (Yogi, Boo Boo, and "Beary Bear" (#SouthPark)

i have 10 mercs 4 ponies and im fine, but...
i dont wanna waste that much money for food, so i prefer kill wolves or boars
and this is just a waste of time, imagine if i ran with autoleveling and couldnt kill lvl 5 boars at level 7
i want to see some kind of autofight or high-level skill that will hunt without fighting, or more iron-made tools for afk farming when my mercs camping, idk
when ure in early game and have problems with everything its ok to farm some boars, but when u have a lot of stuff i wanna see this process automized

actually - free mode is the tougher of the two modes - by a long shot. one other item - cooking recipes actually reduce the weight of the individual components - not increase them, and the more bears you run the way higher your food costs. it's helpful at times to have animals, but in the end, they are, more often than not, a food sink... even at the highest levels of combat the only real value of bringing in bears to the merc party is when you are level 9 and pushing to fight level 10, and then level 11 guards by front loading your team with high level bears.

Maybe animals food consumption is too high. I mean, even in real life a wolf doesnt really eat more than a human. In this game its 3 vs 8. Its a tad unrealistic. horses in real life definitely eat alot more than humans, but in this game they eat less than a wolf, which makes little sense. As I said earlier, I think it could be a bug because wild wolves eat 4 per day, which would be realistic.

Just posting a couple general old time tips on weight management-

Carcasses are very heavy, but Dried meat is very light at 1 food/0.1 weight. If you are using the Meat Rack Drier to make the jerky, check how many carcasses you have tossed in. You really do not want to be carrying more than say 6-8 at a time. I have caught myself with over 50.

You really want to be using as much dried meat as possible to reduce the carry weight. In every Market Square, there is a butcher selling meat. The middle 2 items in his list can be replaced with random items. Just buy them out and eat them, until he restocks with Dried Meat and Dried Fish. You can then buy 9 units each on every town visit for 9 Krowns each, yielding 18 units of rations, enough to feed 3 men twice.
OBVIOUSLY- don't buy the Last One.

Always be Salty
Capture the Bandit lair in Tildren to get the scroll plans for the Salt Scoop. Make it and install it on your Cook, so you never have to buy and haul salt again. It is bugged and will not work unless the cook is wearing it.

Never Empty a Container
Instead leave a flower or a tooth or some other minor item, so you can always access it later.
There are multiple stashes all over the roadways which can be used to store items. Pick a town as your base, and stash your heaviest surplus close to it. eg- Carcasses, Mined Iron and Wood. I like to use the Tiltren lumbermill, which has 4 containers.

Surplus food can be stored in any of the roadways you habitually travel- eg on trade routes, when you are overloaded with Trade Goods, drop food in the stashes. Camp and eat there later. You can dump all the collected herbs/wood/etc to pick up later on, rather than selling or tossing useful resources.
