What do trinkets do or do you just sell them?

You just sell the trinkets for money, no other use... But if you have antiquities you can keep them until you reach level 8 in mysteries and wisdom path. Then you can sell them in the fellowship of Knowledge building (near the Vertruse tomb) for better value.
