Ponies have to fight
Unless I am missing something, I see no way to choose not to have my ponies fight. They seem to get into every battle and I dont want to lose my ponies because they carry my lootz.

On the subject of forcing my ponies to fight....

I would like to see a mechanic that lets me pick who in my gang goes to fight and have the fight tailored to who is in the fight based on level of who i choose for the fight. I would love to have the option for members dedicated to professions, who I never send out to fight. Their pay can still be based on adventuring level and/or profession level. This way I dont get away from paying less for more members.

I maybe wrong but I think they fight based on the specialization. I always chose carrying capacity and they never entered any battle so far.

You have that option: capture enemies and assign the prisoners professions.

Helios is correct, if you don't pick the warhorse class, they do not join the battle. I currently have one warhorse with armor and 4 pack horses who do not show up on the battlefield. The pony armor is now fixed loot at the guard station near the Sinister cave in Tiltren. With armor, he is much more durable than boars or wolfes.

I know it kind of makes sense that you cannot control the ponies while they fight, but there should at least be an option to get them to withdraw or not join the fight. It just sucks to have the pony kamikaze into the last enemy or something, making forcing you to have to ditch 50 weight of supplies. Or savescum.

There is also an Item called the Bacon Collar you can learn to craft. You can control any animal that is wearing one.

If you didn't want your ponies to fight, why did you pick the fighting option when leveling them?

Just because I chose war pony doesnt mean that I want them fight 100% of all future fights. Give players option is always the best path.

I had a war Pony
Bill was he named
Thru paths most stony
True friend he remained

Bill stomped his way
Thru enemies arrayed
Up five levels, hooray
Brave and not frayed

I had an elite quarry
Lund was he named
Though big and scary
Alone he remained

Bill charged his way
Thru trees and gorse
The rest held their stay
For fear .. or worse

Lund swung his mace
With a tremendous whack
Bill met the embrace
And now lies.. a wreck

So now we crawl
Down the way
No pony to haul
No friend to stay
