The leader (you assign it), have a skill that increase VL in battle by the number of member near him.
The lv2 skill let you fill your Valour, when engage in battle or stay by your friend side...
In you rest, build a camp, then assign 4 member to that tent, it will help fill your VL.
The dark gold/amber are the ones you keep and roll over to different battles. The others are to be used up during battle earned from abilities.
Starting pool > 6 VP
Max Pool > 12 VP (earned through achievements/Knowledge/Tent)
"Permanent" VP are orange, "temporary" VP are yellow (they dissapear at the end of the fight)
Each character can learn a skill to gain "temporary" VP (yellow) in battle
+ Captain can generate several temporary VP with his speacial skill (once in every battle)
Every rest in Inns provide a permament 3 VP
Every rest in camp provide a permanent 2 VP
You can assigned up to 4 people to the tent in the camp which will provide up to 4 permanent VP every rest (in camp!)
So resting in camp can provide between 2 to 6 permanent VP.
In addition :
"Glorious" trait gives you a chance to generate one temporary VP at the end of the character turn.
A rare belt item gives you 5% chance to generate one temporary VP at the end of the character turn.
So every battle you "have to" use the captain skill not too late and try to rely only on temporary VP generates by your characters. And most of all, every big fight you want to make sure you're going to battle with a full pool of "permanent" VP.
I just want to add, that because VP are so important - you have to skill wisely how your units regain VP in fight. Goal is that they generate as much VP as possible each turn, so you always have enough for heavy usage!
They could really use a colorblind mode, but tbh the could really use a lot more options for visuals in general
At the start of each battle you can clearly see how many VPs you have. You can build up the pool from there from actions. Use those before dipping into your reserve so you always have some for your next engagement before resting. The max I've gotten from rest is 6 VPs and I have a 12 VP pool.
