Not sure about around the fire, but I think so. Same goes for around the tent. The tent recovers more valour points. I think you can only have one of anything. You can have a drying rack, that turns 2 food from carcasses into 10 food.
No one's on guard. Later you can make a watch station, and that makes it a bit less likely you get attacked.
I think The Chest is just for organising your inventory. I don't think there's any point to The Lectern at the moment, other than allowing you to pick a scholar.
That's as best I understand it anyway.
- Is placing camping gear around the campsite important at all?
Yes. Cooking Pot can make your reduce your food costs when you place someone to main it, you can also learn recipes with the profession and improving your food supply that way.
Tent is also really important because it lets you maximize your Valor Points.
To be honest, every single thing is important, except maybe, the chest. So far, its just more a matter of using it to be more organized and preventing using safe supplies before stolen supplies, but some people dont bother with that. (like me).
In general: Yes, its important.
- Does placing one of your troops by the fire offer any benefit?
Yes, it provides Happines, move over your mouse in your happines to check out the bonus from it. Each gear provides something different. The table a repair kit, tent valor point, cooking pot makes you spend less food for that rest, etc.
- Are the troops who AREN'T by the fire 'on guard' or something?
No, they are just standing there. But if you have no where to place your troop (in the future when you have too many), you can roleplay a little bit. I like to place one of my guys 'watching over prisoners' ... but its just a matter of fun . No real 'guard mechanic' yet at least.
- Does the 'Camp Chest' Tinker item do anything? The Tent explains the benefit of it, but the Chest doesn't.
Like i said before, chest provides no bonuses. Its just a matter of people who wants to use it to organize things better. If you place normal items there (non-stolen) and keep the stolen items in your inventory, when you craft something, the stolen items in your inventory will be used first. Some people like to do that, to get rid of stolen items in their inventories, some wont bother.
- Do you need more than one Tent, or is just one fine?
O.o ... to be honest i never tried to build a second tent. Dont even know if that is possible, the idea just didnt happen XD
Be safe and have fun.
Proximity to your men, and attaching your men to items matters.
Eg: Keeping the ponies near a camping man enough times you rest grants him the title Friend of Beasts.
Experiment with the items by attaching Companions to them yourself, and see the various effects. Just drag them into the object.
If you drag the man close enough, his posture will change, and he will sit by the fire. Mouse over the fire and it will tell you that 1/4 places are occupied. The more occupied, the faster Happiness is generated.
Only the one attached to the Watchstool item provides security.
I have tried making multiple copies. They do not deploy without destroying the first one.
Would not reccomend you try without saving first before making the items. I tried with the Tanning Rack, the Meat Drying Rack, and other items. Stored one copy in the Chest, one in the backpack, and one in another container in the wilds. They can all exist, but only one works in camp.
You really wanted to find a breach in the code Robin, didn't you? :)
@OP
1/ - Is placing camping gear around the campsite important at all?
- As said before gear is important you can assign dudes for most of them. Where the workstations are in the camp doesn't change anything though.
2/ - Does placing one of your troops by the fire offer any benefit?- As said before campfire produces happiness. Futhermore, once you've reached 15 happiness you are going to produce Influence. (1 happiness = 5 influence)
- Campfire > + 4 happiness (therefore +20 influence)
- Ale cask > +1 happiness (therefore +5 influence)
- Your camp can currently produce up to 25 influence every rest (booze and meal can provides +2 happiness and therefore 10 more influence - happiness is stackable but influence is not)
Influence is quite important at the begining of the game. (later it will be used to bargain every bounties in inns)3/ - Are the troops who AREN'T by the fire 'on guard' or something?
- Already answered
4/ - Does the 'Camp Chest' Tinker item do anything? The Tent explains the benefit of it, but the Chest doesn't.[/list]
- It provides knowledge to craft it
- You can tidy up your inventory
- it looks good (ok not a great feature but still...)
- Most useful feature it allows you to use stolen items first when crafting. Ex: 10 stolen leather + 10 normal leather. If you craft something using leather, normal leather wil be used first. To prevent that you can put the normal leather in the chest.
5/ - Do you need more than one Tent, or is just one fine?
