Keeping animals alive
Since they cannot be controlled (until level 5 I guess?) and have no armor, is there any way other than praying to keep them alive? In the current state, the animals seem rather useless.

That issue might be resolved in March update since skills will be available then.

I usually get some, let them tank to avoid spending armor/potions. And when its about to Rest, i free them before spending food on them. I mean, poor bastards, but they did they job already.
And yes, as mentioned, there will be skill soon and some players are already hoping if there is at least a way to butcher then so we can get some meat, which would be nice.

Cant wait till the Mosquito's are released. I wonder if we will be able to tame.

Other than placing them at the start, no.

After lv5 Beastmaster skills, it's a bit better.

At level 5 and with beastmaster, even prayers won't keep them alive through the ruins... The creepers crave boar flesh and will one shot them every time...

It makes me wonder, with the non scaling option, you can basically capture 10 boars/wolf, and beat any battle in the game?

no. And the problem is not lack of scalling, is the lack of a limit for your party.

I have no idea why they didnt make a limit since they inspired from bb.

party size is part of the scaling system in the free mode.

My question was : Does enemies are more or stronger when you capture animal in the region-locked mode? If the answer is no then you can beat anything with this cheese mechanic.

Did they implement something in the non-scaling mode to counter this? That's, more clearly my question.

Again, Its not a cheese mechanic. Its more like... Cheese player? (The problem is not the mechanic). Its actually really fun. But i do agree it needs a party limit to it, similar to BB to improve its effect. And sorry, can't properly answer that scenario since i never get more than 6 mercs and sometimes one or two animals just for fun for a day or two. :(

Yea that seem to be the most optimal way to use them. Still, though, seems weird if that is their intended purpose in the game. Shouldn't there be some incentive to keep them alive and level them up instead of just being used as sacrificial lambs so that you don't have to feed them? It will be interesting to see what skills they will get in the next update.

I am sure that's not 'their intended purpose' , since they are going to get skills and more things. Its just early access. A not completed feature yet, it doesnt mean it was intended to stay that way forever. I am sure next update will be really cool :D

would be nice, if they bring up an option, that you can leave them in the camp while battle, like ponys - just to have some wolfes as pets...

Throw us some Armor for animals for peat sake, it's an easy temporary fix. You can choose Horseshoes, Saddlebags, Collar's or Armor for all your animals. Considering (I assume Pony's are going to be in fights, they have the basic skills already), I am going to want to protect my Ponies at all cost, my business hauling freight depends on them.
